calm before the storm

He held her close.

Really close.

Her heartbeat hastened as he entangled his plump fingers into her scrawny ones. It shot a wave of electricity through her being.

They held their gaze. His bright blue ones were connected with her hazel brown ones, exchanging wordless whispers of fondness. The corners of his lips flinched and he broke the eye-contact, staring down as he chuckled lowly.

She was amused. How could she still be surprised by his actions now that they have been dating for months?

He looked up again, locking his eyes with hers. And without any warning, he started closing in as he shifted his gaze to her lips.

They were about to touch, when she heard a deafening bell. It was as if it was ringing right beside her ears. It was like someone was shouting in her ears-

"Sydney!" The voice rung loudly as Sydney inhaled deeply and her eyes snapped open. She took in her surroundings and comprehended the situation.

Bright green eyes stared back into hers. She suddenly realised the weight that was laid upon her. A girl was hovering over her with an expression of utter horror and panic.

"What?" She said in a hoarse voice.

"Sydney, we have to go. Now." She swung her right leg back, so she was not hovering over Sydney anymore and she could prop herself up with her arm.

"What's wrong, Red?" Sydney took her hand and was pulled up. This was pure chemistry, no need for any exchange between them.

Although, it was not always like this.

"Happy Birthday to you!" They chorused as they delivered Sydney's birthday cake to her kitchen table. This had totally come as a surprise, she had no idea she had so many friends and family. Hell, she did not even know people knew her name.

"Thank you." She muttered under her breathe. She was sincere about it, though. Just, social events with alot of people is not really her forte. She's the type that loved the sound of rain pounding against her window while being alone with her laptop.

A familiar tune erupted from the living room, she was guessing it was the evening news (she could not see past the bodies infront of her). It was like, background noise compared to the noise surrounding her. She could, and would much rather, make it out and listen to the news than let her distant relatives bombard her with questions about her lovelife, and mostly her lovelife.

'...Reports from all over country reported the spotting of unidentified flying objects in the distant skies, during the storm that happened yesterday, and disappearing together with it. Expert Proffesor Mefugal had explained that those sightings could have been migrating birds, as the unusual decrease in temperature in recent months could have misinformed the creatures to migrate earlier than they should..."

That was about all she could make out before she was interrupted by her nephew kicking her chair persistantly. She looked around, made sure no one was looking at her before she shot him a glare. This diminished his cheeky smile as he ceased his kicking and walked away.

The night died down and everyone left one after the other. The streets were getting darker as the night grew later.

"Alright Mum, Goodnight." Sydney shoo-ed her mother away with the beckoning to shut her door. She reached to her side and flicked the light switch off. Soon, her eyelids grew heavier as she fell into a deep slumber.
