She laid Sydney on the concrete floor gently, then she held her breath and let the warm feeling engulf her. Dull red light surrounded her as pointy ears sprouted on her head and a long bushy tail grew from her tailbone. Her hair grew thicker as she hunched forward on four limbs. With her new wolf form, she picked Sydney up with her teeth clenched around a huge bunch of her blouse and began dashing towards the thick forest northwards.

The wind blowing through her coat of fur had always felt exhilirating back in Floehn, her home planet, but on Earth, it just felt a little different. Fresher, cooler, and she felt for the first time in ages, that she finally had freedom. She could never have that back home with her father observing her every move.

The little green-ish brown leaves dangling from the branches of a tall and thick tree had intrigued Ruby, for back in Floehn, they did not have trees. They did not need oxygen. She never could see a tree with her own eyes before, she could only learn about these things in books.

She felt Sydney stir under her grip and quickly pushed a bunch of fallen leaves together and placed her body gently above them.

Sydney's eyes shot open and she sat up suddenly, which was unfortunate as the blood had not enough time to travel up to her head and that allowed a wave of dizziness to envelop her and she fell backwards.

Ruby, still in her wolf form, leaped under Sydney and prevented the latter from crashing into the solid ground.

"You're...You're that-that thing." Sydney breathed as she felt the animal under her.

Sydney was pale already, her lips barely had any colour and she was getting colder by the second. Whatever she caught, it was spreading fast.

Ruby changed back into human form with the same red glow flashing briefly and cleared her throat. "A 'thank you' would've sufficed," She was panting a little. "I see you have a thing for human pillows." She teased.

If she could blush, she would definitely be blushing right now. She lifted her body up with little strengh, allowing Ruby to quickly slip out from under her and then she fell back with a thud.

"Oh god, you look horrible." Ruby gasped as she saw the brunette's pale face. Sydney looked up at her and winced. "How dare yo-" She began coughing horribly, her whole being convulsing with every cough.

She put one arm around the girl and rubbed her back in circles with the other, looking upon the girl helplessly.

Soon, Sydney's fit had ceased and she let her body slump into Ruby's embrace. As much as she didn't want to do that, she didn't have the energy to stop herself.

"It's spreading fast. We need to get you the antidote." Ruby brushed the girl's hair aside and revealed her soft hazel eyes. "My mother made the antidote, She was sick too." She explained.

"What happened?" Sydney said so softly that it was almost a whisper.

"To my mother? Well, she didn't take it. My fa-" Ruby stopped abruptly. "She died." She quickly said.

For Sydney was so tired, she had already fallen asleep before Ruby's slip-up, to Ruby's relief. She laid the girl down, for the umpteenth time today, and sat beside her with knees to her chest.

She looked over to Sydney, examining her features. "So beautiful, and so unbelievably important. So strong, yet so vulnerable." She muttered under her breath as an unconscious smile lingered on her face.

She turned her head to face the stars. She sighed as she thought about the plan to retrieve the cure. She had weighed all her options and yet, that was still the best way. She did not want to leave Sydney alone, but it was impossible to drag a half-conscious girl with her to the wolves' mothership. It was way too dangerous.

She reached under her red cloak and took out a tiny bottle. Inside it was a liquid. Although, it was not any ordinary liquid, it had a glowing aqua colour, and it was so clear it was almost transparent.

She tipped it upside down and let a few drops drip onto Sydney's body. From the tip of her toes to the top of her head, Sydney's body slowly vanished. While her breathing could still be heard, it was much safer with her this way.

Sydney put it back under her cloak and stood up. She transformed into a wolf and took of immediately.

She made a vow to herself that she would do all she could to keep the girl safe.
