There were whispers heard across the valley, the statement couldn't be true! But they had never seen this man before. They would have noticed him before if he had been in this kingdom for long. Due to his height he was easy to spot out.

The confusion in the crowds weren't the only confusion going around, either. Little Nightmare sat in front of a bickering crowd. He noticed everyone's stance and tried to stand as well. He fell but after a few tries (and the support of the tree) he stood in his legs. But nobody noticed or cared enough to cheer at the strange sight. Dispute the crowds, the tree whisped happily in the sudden wind.

The small child giggled and looked up at the tree, up into its leafs and blossoms. A leaf fell down into the child's head and he picked it up and laughed. The Gaster smiled at the child, observing that he would have to place someone with him so he wouldn't get hurt, other than that he was a pure child.

A couple years later, Nighmare could speak, walk, and even run. There were a few unspoken about new people in the kingdom, most being newborn children, although one was from some place else.

On that day (no it wasn't exactly two years later, they weren't born on the same day) a soul appeared on the their side of the tree, and yet again, a crowd of people surrounded the tree. Another boy appeared, this had golden starred eyes and clothing of bright colors. A tag was placed on the child stating his name was Dream. The crowd cheered upon the new prince. Golden flowers replaced the dull white ones on his side of the tree. The Gaster appeared yet again, but no need, for the townspeople loved the new child and were praising him with gifts of flowers. The child was so distracted, however, to notice his older brother behind him. He glanced back at him once, to see that the other was smiling in wonder, only to look back at the people and smile back at them.

The older brother, upon this happening, tears filled his eyes and he retreated to the lonely other side of the tree. He wiped his face that was now covered in glowing tears and the tree   waved in the wind, in whatever a worried manner a tree could.

The Gaster has left them alone, not seeming to worry about them. Not even the one that the townspeople hated deeply for no apparent reason. Even though of the loss of the guardian, a pair of eyes seemed to watch the eldest, although it wasn't in hatred. Nightmare must had felt it too because he looked back in the direction of the eyes, only to see a little person running away. He didn't seek much notice of it, considering whoever it was must be afraid of him, and everything continued as it was.

A few years later, the boys were grown a bit more, Dream was stalking to townspeople and travelers about his side of the tree, only mentioning the dark apples a few times. Nightmare sat on the other side, calmly reading the book The False Prince (great book by the way.) He was nearly finished with his reading for the day when a couple humans walked up to him and grabbed the book. "Hey, give that back please." Nightmare veer really did raise his voice at people, he was the calmer of the two boys. "What are you reading?" One or the humans shut the book and looked at the cover. "Haha, only beards read that type of books, or read this much at all!" The humans laughed at the skeleton, who lowered his head, tears threatened to fall. They threw the hardcover book at his skull, scratching it. Nightmare winced in pain and the other human kicked him in the stomach, Nightmare coughed. The humans left, leaving to the light side of the tree to talk to the Sunshine who never seemed to care what happened to his brother.

The tree wriggled around as if strong winds had just blown, but the air was calm. Nightmare picked up the book, wiped off the bit of dirt that got on the cover, and went back to where he was reading. A pain echoed in his stomach, he suddenly felt sick. The sickness went away quickly but the pain was still there, as if the humans were still kicking him.

Meanwhile on the other side of the tree, Dream was wandering questions from two humans. "Whoa, what would happen if someone ate a apple??" One said, eyes sparkling. "I actually don't know exactly what would happen, but I know enough that it would be very good!" The youngest smiled, making the crowd fell joyful. "Well, what would happen if one were to eat the other side?" The other human asked him, eying the apples that seemed to echo the night side. Dream's smile faded quickly, before hurting back in his face. "It would not being good, the chance of you dying would be rather high." Dream smiled at the crowd sympathetically. "Where did you learn these things, Dream??" A young monster asked, eyes with wonder. Dream paused, "From books, reading gives you good knowledge." The monster smiled, humans smiling in return. Dream smiled back, the child hugging the guardian. He hugged back, happiness filling his soul.

Years passed, Nightmare had made a friend, a young boy with a eyepatch. They played and read during the day but mostly loved the night, as the skies showed such wonder things you cannot see in the day. One day, though, the young boy did not come to the tree, as he usually does to meet Nightmare. Little Noodle, was worried but assumed that he was sick. A week passed, bullying continued for Nightmare, no sign of the boy. A month passed and Nightmare gave up in hope that he was coming back. The night he decided he wasn't coming back he cried into his knees, gripping his shirt. Soon after he came to the little bakery that the boy lived in, to see that the attic was empty except for a bed and a nightstand. On that nightstand laid a locket. Now I'm just a book and not going to go into details about sad locket. There was also a dairy entry, Nightmare folded it up and placed it inside the locket, then placing the locket around his neck. He retreated to the tree, and bullying continued.

Much to the moon-like prince's dismay, his younger brother only grew in popularity and yet did nothing to help his elder brother.

A year or so later, Nightmare got fed up with the constant bruises and scars. He reached up into the tree, grabbed a apple, and I'm sure you know what happened after that.

Cross stared at the pages. 'To be continued~' the paper mocked him. He couldn't help but feel bad for Nightmare, but that didn't matter now. He sighed and placed the book down on a side table. He looked back around the room, as if a window or door would suddenly appear out of thin air. 'I wonder how every one else would a doing..' he hoped that they were doing much better at not being held captive by who knows who. Cross yawned and walked over to the bed, engulfing himself with covers.

If any of the parts of the story were incorrect to cannon Dreamtale, it's not supposed to be. This is a AU (really it's a different multiverse) and things are different like most AUs are.

I hoped you enjoyed, I'm sorry for not updating for so long but I'll try to update more frequently. Gudbai pplz!
