Max sat at the very back of the classroom, beside the wall where he stared out the window like a bird in a cage. The harmony that he had found while staring out the window was rudely disturbed when she heard a girl next to her say, “I know you aren’t sleeping.” Shocked he turns his head way too fast to the direction of the voice; as a result, Max and Roxie’s hit each other with a big thud. The teacher seeming to be a bit concerned asks, “Are you okay, Roxie?” Roxie puts on a toothy smile and replies, “We’re both okay. There is no need for worries, miss.” Max quickly tries to act as if nothing had happened and resumed his observation of the outside.
Did she glare at the teacher when she replied? No, I’m probably imagining it.
The class finally ended it might have been the longest 45 minutes of Max’s life.
Fortunately, she didn’t try talking to me again. I just hope it stays that way.
It was lunch break; Max’s favorite time. Its 35 minutes of being away from everyone that he needed especially today since he was suffering a headache thanks to his carelessness. He’s hideout from everyone was the school’s rooftop. Fresh air and as much as free space he needed and absolutely no one would come and bother him. He started eating the small sandwich that he had bought from the school’s canteen while enjoying the soft autumn breeze.
Why can’t life be as relaxing?
“Hey, can I eat with you?” Roxie Grey appeared out of nowhere disturbing Max once again.
Oh right, it’s because of her, I have to get rid of her to find relaxation.
Max was about to decline her and to tell her to go away when he noticed that Roxie had already started eating her lunch seating next to him.
She didn’t even wait for my reply!
Max just stared at her with complete amazement of how care-free this girl can be. Ignoring Max’s stares, she swallows what she was chewing and asks, “I still haven’t got your name?” Max stops staring and turns his face away from her. Facing the beautiful view that the rooftop provided, he answered while looking up at the blue sky, “Max”
Why did I look at the sky and say my name? Stupid. Stupid.
“Max Knight?” Roxie questioned. Max slowly nodded his head. Roxie seemed to have gotten deep in thought for a minute or so then suddenly stood, pointing at Max and shouting “Oh you”
Has she heard rumors about me already?
Roxie straightened out her grey skirt and sat back down. She didn’t say anything for a couple of minutes, but just stared at Max which made him really uncomfortable.
Just say what you want to say already. This is just causing me to have sweaty palms.
Then finally she blurted out, “Please join my club, my Knight.”
Join a club? Wait what “my knight”? When did I become her knight? Which one should I question first?
