Erza was peacefully working in the kitchen with her son, Sora, sitting at the counter behind her. As she was chopping some vegetable for their stew later she heard a knock on the front door. She stopped what she was doing and went to answer the door. As she opened, she saw an unexpected face. One she didn't want to see.
Her standing by the door left her son curious. He got off his stool and began walking to her. "Mom?"
"Sora, go to your room," she commanded. He wanted to protest, alarmed by her sudden hostility. "Now!"
He flinched at her sharp tone and walked up the stairs. After making sure he was out of ear shot, she looked back to Jellal. The man was smiling, as if nothing happened. "What the hell are you doing here?" she hissed.
"I came back?" he answered, confused. She glared at him.
"Like hell you did!" She slammed the door shut in his face. With a grumble she walked back into the kitchen. She heard him knock on the door again. The bastard was really desperate.
"Erza, can we please talk?" she heard his muffled voice from outside. In a fit of rage, she picked up her cutting board, dropping vegetables and the knife on the floor. She walked back to the front door. She ripped it opened, ready to kill the man if it meant he would leave. He saw the hostility; the hurt on her face.
"No! You know damn well we can't talk!" she screamed and brought the cutting board down on him. He blocked with his arms. It was pretty big and heavy so her movements would be slow, but that didn't stop it from hurting. He stepped back, walking backwards down the path to his luggage.
"Erza, please, listen to me!" She kept hitting him, from the side, from the top. He blocked every blow that went for his head, although that didn't stop her from hitting his sides. Halfway down the walkway she brought it down to his head again, and this time her grip on the board wasn't strong enough to stop it from ricocheting off his arm.
It flew into her front lawn, but she didn't care. She now hit him with her hands, punching and slapping him. He still walked backwards. "No! I won't listen! Not to you! Not anymore! You left us! You left us for six years, Jellal! SIX FUCKING YEARS! You never even sent me a letter! I have no reason to listen or let you talk."
Tears were streaming down her face. The were flowing ever since she stepped out of the house and began hitting him. He knew she was hurt, but that wasn't why she was crying. She was overwhelmed. She was so angry and frustrated and she didn't know what to do with all the overflowing emotion. Hitting him wasn't really a good enough outlet. "There was no reason for you to be gone that long. If you're going to tell me it was for the money then you can go and shove the cash up your ass! I don't want it!"
He grabbed her hands, his grip stronger than her. He held them close to his chest where he got hold of them. "You're right. You don't have a reason to listen to me, but I want you to. Because it's important."
She looked at his face with her tearful gaze before breaking down into his chest. She stood straight up, only her forehead touching his chest. Her fists were also residing there. He watched her as she sobbed.
From behind them, hiding by the door, was Sora. He watched the entire scene, not listening or hearing their words. Still, he didn't need to, to know who the man was. He knew the marking on his own face all too well. He only stared in shock and horror.
His mother wasn't the only one with a flurry of overwhelming emotion inside her. He watched him wrap his arms around his mother. He wasn't focusing on what he was seeing. Only staring off into space with a thousand thoughts running through his head.
Jellal on the only hand, only felt guilt. He reached for her shoulders, pushing her back only a few inches. "Erza, I swear, I never meant to leave for so long, but I promise I wasn't cutting you off. I sent you letters everyday for six years, but for some reason my doves kept coming back with the same letters. At first I thought you were just sending them back, as a means to tell me that you were done with our relationship. However, knowing you, you would send a letter of your own to tell me that."
