She drifted in the water, lying on her side facing the wooden wall she was too familiar with now. Her body ached. This barrier was too small for her. She just wanted to be free again, but she couldn't break through this thing and even if she could, she wouldn't be able to fight the being guarding her. This was his domain, he would easily overpower her.
Her eyelids dropped lower. Where was she? What would they do with her? Nothing good that was for sure. The guard was their leader and he'd already put her through enough pain as is. How did she even get here?
Her eyes closed as she recalled what happened.
~~~
"Erza~! Erza!" Lucy called from behind her. The blonde swam at a rapid pace to catch up with her friend. When she was closer she called out to her again. "Erza, what the hell do you think you're doing?! Going up to the surface is forbidden!"
Erza stopped and turned around, smiling at her friend. "I'm not going to the surface, not tonight at least. Just going to inspect what the currents might bring in. The storm outside is pretty rough."
Lucy relaxed, her eyes falling. She felt for her friend a lot. Her friend was part of the royal guard after all; it was a dangerous profession. "Alright, but be careful."
Erza smiled. "I will!"
She was dead wrong. Her curiosity got the best of her. She did inspect what the currents may bring in, but her mistake was going up to the surface to see what caused the giant shadow over her.
She was still swimming against the current, scanning what drifted to the reef, but then a giant shadow loomed over her head. She looked up, but instead of stormy clouds and the glow of the moon, she saw pure black. What ever this monster was she had no idea. She could see its rough, brown belly. It surely wasn't a whale. It looked like it remained still for a very long time, the barnacles on its skin told her that.
She swam to inspect what it was and what it might do if something came its way. Its body stretched high above the rough waters and she wondered how it remained afloat. She popped her head above the water, despite knowing she shouldn't, and watched as it approached. It didn't slow down or make an attempted to turn. She had to swim away at the last second to be sure it didn't run her over. She came back up, staring from the side as it kept swimming straight. That's when she saw the strange two legged beings running on top of it.
Then it occurred to her that the giant thing they were on wasn't alive. Like a dolphin carriage in her world under the sea, the shell wasn't alive. The beings on top of it were what were steering and controlling it. She swam closer to see what they looked like.
Aside for the two legs, they weren't all that different from the merfolk. Her body froze up for a second when one of them looked her way. Her eyes widened and she was quick to dive under the waves and swim away.
***
He was one of the most well known sea captains. As well as one of the most well known pirates. The storm on the ocean was rough, but nothing compared to some of the things he's faced. He stood near the side of his ship. He turned to give his men orders before turning around again to survey the waves again. That's when his eyes caught something. It looked like a giant purple fish when it dove under water, but it had the body of a woman when he first saw it. Perhaps he was going crazy, but he still ran to his office below deck, grabbing a net on his way.
