12.25.19

christmas. i remember celebrating when i was little. toys, presents, snacks everywhere.

what a good life. i can't imagine experiencing that now.

      just one more we

I jumped as the door to the convenience store swung open. I stood up and said my usual: "Welcome!"

The man walked towards the back of the store. I put my elbows on the counter and watched the clock tick. 11:56. 11:57. 11:58. 11:59.

He came up and set a can of coffee on the counter.

"That'll be $1.50," I said as I looked up.

He looked oddly familiar. Dark hair, deep eyes. Strong features. I felt drawn to him.

I took the cash and handed him the change.

"Goodnight," I threw over my shoulder. I heard the door clang shut.

12:01.

I guess it wasn't Christmas anymore.
