The faint voice of Roddy Rich played through the speakers on the sides of Melo's white G wagon. But it was hard to tell which song was playing because I was slowly drowning in my own thoughts.
Earlier today, I was arguing with my brother telling him how much hatred I felt for him and his secret affairs.
And now, I was heading to the hospital to figure out if he was still alive or not.
And Madison.. oh no not Madison too. Dear God, why does this shit always happen to me? The speed of my breathing didn't go unnoticed by the guy next to me.
"It's gone get better, I swear" His hand caressed part of my thigh as he turned his focus to me instead of the road for a small moment. His light bright skin was still visible even at 3 in the morning which made it easier for me to identify his face. His eyes were filled with reassurance and comfort.
Most would ask you if you were fine in situations like these but Melo knew that things weren't okay. So instead of asking the blatant obvious, he encouraged the positive. It was something that I needed but at the time didn't even realize.
Even though Kyle, Madison, and I weren't on good terms at the moment, I would never wish death upon someone, especially family. And thats what we were, family that is. Which meant even though the trust might get bent and twisted, blood was always thicker than water.
The rest of the ride was silent as Melo followed his father's Rolls Royce to the medical building that held the sick and the weak.
The only reason why I knew we made it to the hospital is because the vehicle came to a unexpected halt. In front of us was an ambulance, speeding their way into the entrance of the hospital. It made me feel uneasy and worried. Stuff like this happens everyday, but you don't even realize it until you or a loved one is in the situation.
When we finally parked, I released a breathe that I didn't realize I was holding in. Pulling his keys out of the ignition, Melo sighed also.
He was the first out of the car and then made his way onto my side so he could open my door.
And in we went.
The environment in hospitals never failed to make me queasy. Just the smell, contaminated people, and the quick pace of the nurses and doctors could made me feel nauseous.
Melo grabbed my left hand. and leaded to the front desk.
"I'm so sorry sir but visitation hours are over so if you could please exit the hospital-"
He cut her off, "Ma'am you gotta understand, her brother and her best friend were in a fire. We need to see them.." He tried to reason with her.
The lady shook her head once more with a guilty expression on her face.
"Please Ma'am." This time it was coming from me.
The lady then examined me for a moment and saw the sleep and sadness in my eyes. She had to be in her late twenties with at lease a child or two. She had that motherly look in her eyes. Her completion, like mine but a little bit darker.
She looked both ways before scooting closer to her desk, "What are their names?"
Relieved, I gave her the information.

"Please, Just take Tina home. Y'all should get some sleep. I know you guys are tired." I tried to convince Lavar.
It was nearing four in the morning and we still hadn't got any updates from the doctors about Kyle and Mads. All we knew is that they were both in the ICU. I knew I was going to stick it out for the night, but I didn't want Tina and Lavar to stay any longer. The fact that they even drove all the way here was too much already.
"Oh no, it's okay." Tina waved me off. But I was persistent to get them up and out of here. Lavar shook his head agreeing with Tina.
Melo sat beside me with a energy drink in hand.
"Mom and Dad, just go. I can take it from here."
"I taught you well, son." Lavar dapped him up and made their way out of the lobby.
A few more hours passed by slowly.
The white fluorescent light was so bright that even though my eyes were closed, I could still see white. So I gave up on trying to fall asleep. I pulled out my phone.
6:35am
Damn. I turned to my side to see Melo, mouth wide open and head to the side. He didn't have to stay but he did for me. Part of me felt guilty because he looked so uncomfortable in the small chair, his long legs lied in front of him.
But I knew I had to stay. I had to make sure they were okay. It killed me every second not knowing what was taking place behind the two thick metal doors that were in front of us.
So I just waited.
Until the oldest Ball brother came from the elevator, Denise trailing behind him like a lost puppy.
"Hey Zo, what are you doing here?" I embraced him, happy to see that he came.
"What you mean? I rushed over as soon as I heard the news. How is he?" Zo had worry all over his face.
Kyle was his buddy, friend, brother. Of course he would be worried.
"Honestly I have no clue.. all I know is they're both in the intensive care unit."
He shook his head in distress, and then pulled me in for another hug.
"They gone be alright."
It was false hope but at this point it didn't even matter.
Denise had a disgusted look on her face before pulling out her phone. I only shut my eyes tightly and hug Zo back.
"Yeah, I hope so.."
A small tear escapes my closed eye.
