A Week Later

Amanda's POV

We've been in Georgia for about a week and a half now an I like it so far. Everything was alright and my dad was supposed to be coming home soon. Everything was great except Dru kept calling me. I don't know what he wants, I think he said everything he had to say in that last phone call. I shook my head an stood on my balcony an looked around at the scenery. It's so nice out here, there's a lot of trees and open space, I know my little sisters and our dog will enjoy this. "I need a job." I whispered. I decided I've been in this house long enough so I'm going to find myself a job. I went downstairs to tell my mother I was going to look for a job. Right before I got to the kitchen I heard her talking. "Ma?" I went into the kitchen and seen ms Jennifer. She's my mothers friend and Dru's mother. "Hi ms Jennifer!" I went an hugged her. "Hey Amanda." "How are you?" "I'm alright, how are you liking it here so far?" "I am about to find out." "Are you telling me you haven't been out exploring yet?" "Yeah, I've been busy with the girls and helping mom." "You're such a good daughter." "Thank you ms Jennifer." I hugged her again then I looked at my mother. "Ma?" "Yes?" "I'm going to look for a job alright?" "Ok honey, drive safely and don't talk to strangers." "Really ma?" I just looked at her. "Fine, talk to ya strangers." We both started laughing. "Love you." "Love you too, I'll be back later." I took my keys and left. I drove around putting in applications then I went for a long drive to see what it was like here. At some point I stopped at a store to get my little sisters some cookies then went home.

When I pulled into our driveway there was a black car parked next to my mothers truck. "More people ugh." I sat there for a while listening to the radio then I got sleepy. I went in to the house and Jessie came over to me. "Did you buy me something?!!" "Yeah cookies." "Yes! Oh my gosh I was dying." I shook my head an laughed. "I got you and Sara a pack." "Ok." I gave her the bag. "So where have you been? Did you make us some friends?" "No I went out looking for a job." "Whhyy you just stopped working?" She flopped down on the couch. "What?" "You're always working." "Jess I have to work to have money." "You could ask mommy, that's what I do." "It's different for you and me." "How?" "For starters I am 17 and you're 11." "Still not seeing your point." "I have to help with the bills." "No you don't." "Yes I do." "No you don't, you just want too." I just looked at her. "Besides mommy doesn't even use the money you give her." "What?" "She's saving it for you." "What?!" I was in shock. "We are rich." "We are not rich Jessie." "So how can you and mommy buy me and Sara stuff that cost a lot of money?" "We work and save our money. So when you and Sara need or want things we can go get it for you." "No." She shook her head. "That's how it works Jessiecat. You get a job and work for money." "Can I get a job?" "When you're older." "Ms Jennifer is here." "I know I seen her before I left." "Oh, can you make me something to eat?" "Sure I'm hungry anyways. I got up and went to the kitchen and pulled out some chicken. (I think that's what I was making that night. I can't remember.) While I was cooking I got a bad headache. I finished making the food then went an got my youngest sister so she could eat. When they finished I cleaned up and went an took a shower then ate a few pieces of chicken then went to bed.

Not even 10 minutes into me laying down my mother came into my room. "Hey!!" She smiled. "Hey ma." "What's the matter?" "Nothing." I sat up and she came an sat next to me. "So how did job hunting go?" "It was alright, I gave a few people your number just in case I miss their call on my phone." "Ok." "Um.. Jessie told me something." "What?" "She said you don't use the money I give you." "That girl and her listening." She shook her head. "Is it true?" "Yes." "But its to help out." "You help me enough with the girls, I don't need your money. That's why I save it for you." "Dads not here so I have to step up." "And you have, you cook, clean, take care of the girls. All without me having to ask you, baby that's help enough." I just looked at her. "Would it make you feel better if I said I used some of the money yesterday?" "Is that true?" "No but if it makes you feel better.." She nodded her head yes and I died laughing. "Ma!" "What, I'm just trying to help." I shook my head and laid back in the bed. "Oh Jessie thinks we're rich." "I know, I keep telling her we're not." "Well maybe daddy will have more luck in telling her." "Maybe." She laughed an kissed my forehead. "Thanks for cooking." "No problem." "Good night." "Night ma." She left and I went to sleep.
