Delilah
Two Years Ago
Breakfast is an odd affair. Piper is picking at her food and Miranda is moving around the kitchen, annoyed. I guess she and Sam still haven't made up. I type away on my phone as Nicole send me good morning texts. We stayed on the phone way longer than I expected and when I returned to check up on Piper. She was gone. This resulted in me sleeping in the bed alone with Nicole on the speaker. It wasn't the same though.
I huff. Now I'm annoyed. Everyone odd energy rubbing on me. The front door opens, and I hurry and stand to leave out the kitchen. It's Lily. She's carrying several bags in her arm and I arch my eyebrow. "Did you seriously bring your school stuff? It's summer, Lily."
"It's not schoolwork." She smiles. "It's research."
"Yeah. Whatever." I say before walking forward and helping her with the bags. "We have to find a way to make Piper happy." I tell her.
"Why?" Lily asks. "What did you do?"
I scowl, "Why would you think I did something?"
Lily laughs, "Piper is never upset unless you've upset her."
"It's her parents' asshole." I frown. "And that's not completely true."
Lily arches her perfectly sculptured eyebrow, "Okay—so?" She questions. "What do you want to do?"
I shrug my shoulders, "That's your job. Why do you think I'm asking you?"
Lily roll her eyes and push the door open, "With that attitude, I won't be helping you at all."
I groan and faceplant on the bed, "Come on Lily. This isn't about us it's about Piper."
Lily continues to ignore my dramatics as she begins to unpack her things. Finally, she looks up when I throw a pillow toward her head—completely missing. She smirks, "You suck ass." She then says, "You know Piper better than any of us. Whatever you want to do I'm down."
I smirk devilishly.
"Legal." Lily reminds me. "It needs to be legal."
"Too late." I smirk. "Tonight, we're going to head to town and check out the bars."
"I don't think that's a good idea." Lily replies. "We want to make Piper happy not get her grounded for the entire summer."
Delilah shrugs, "I'll take all the blame."
Lily cocks her head to the side, "You're on strike three. Mom is going to take the car—"
"It'll be worth it." I stand and head for the closet. "What should I wear?"
Lily ignores me and continues to set up her laptop. She then moves toward the bed and lay down. "So, happy to be here." She whispers as she watches the fan on the ceiling. The door is pushed open and Piper rushes into the room before jumping on the bed and pulling Lily in a hug. "Finally." She huffs. "You're here."
"What?" I joke. "You didn't enjoy my company?"
"You left me alone to facetime with your girlfriend." Piper rolls her eyes.
Lily pauses—and then she cocks her head to the side looking between Piper and I. Piper smiles and then ask, "How was the drive?"
Lily gives me a pointed look and then she smiles along with Piper before answering her question. "It was long. Thanks for leaving me behind." She throws a pillow toward my head and it hits me. Her aim is better than mine.
