Free At Last

Chapter 9

I drove to school nervous as heck the next morning. I had like a ton of classes with Chloe and I could already tell she was going to say something to me about Eli. I parked in my usual spot, grabbed my bag and stepped out, taking it all in.
Another wonderful day in paradise.
I slammed my red locker shut and headed down the hall into my class. I passed a weird guy who stared at me and whistled. I turned around and glared.
"What are you looking at?" I said viciously to him, causing him to go red in the face and hurry away. I flipped my hair, straightened my shoulders and breathed out loudly before heading in to my class.
I continued to tap my pencil on my notebook and watch the clock. There were three minutes until lunch.
I sighed and took notes until the bell rang. I grabbed my friend Nia by the hand and dragged her to my locker where I grabbed my lunch and gave hers to her. We talked and walked to the cafeteria.
I saw Chloe and Eli sitting at the populars table, where she sweetly waved at me and I glared back. Brat.
Nia and I sat outside in our usual spot and talked. I told her about my Starbucks encounter yesterday. She listened to me the whole time. She's great.
"Listen Maddie, Eli's leaving soon, Chloe will be heartbroken, she'll cry every day and we can watch her and laugh. It'll be fine," Nia said.
I smiled a tiny bit and shrugged.
"I guess," I said.
The rest of the day went by in a blur. Surprisingly, Chloe didn't say anything to me. Eli kept staring at me and trying to talk but I pretended like I didn't notice him. I got home, made some tea and did my homework. Your regular Wednesday afternoon.
Suddenly I got a text. From Kendall.
