Of course Emily was thrown back into the same old prison cell. She wouldn't have expected anything else. Same old walls, same old floor, same old one window that taunted her about the outside. Same old gross food being served everyday, same old rats crawling through the dungeon.
It was hard for her to not break down. She had gotten so close to freedom, so close to not being caught. So close to being one step closer to seeing Aspen and Torrin. She missed them so much her heart ached. She missed the way they'd talk her ear off and eagerly describe every little part of their day.
On another note she got to see a genuine side of Heath she had never seen before. He let down his walls in front of her and admitted that he really did feel the same way as her.
Then it all turned cold in an instant.
A couple of Kingdom Warriors came by with a fresh pair of clothes since her current ones were almost torn down completely. At least they were nice about something.
Rays from the sunrise came through her prison window, shedding some light in her small cell. It was warm against her cold and fair skin, making the highlights in her hair shine. It felt good to feel the warmth of the outside world, she could almost imagine that she was back home.
In the floors above, Heath was walking the halls of the castle with Commander Lane, slowly, discussing battle tactics. The small scar on his jaw had already disappeared, a small price to pay for saving Emily. His muscles ached to be around her yet it felt wrong to him.
No one deserves a second mate, especially not one who couldn't even protect his first one.
"That girl, in the basement. Did you want me to do some interrogating with her? Seems like her back has healed up quite a bit." Lane said with a hint of humor. That made Heath bristle up a tiny bit.
"No." Heath said a little too quickly, causing Lane's eyebrows to go up. It was almost as if King Heath had a soft spot for the small girl. "But we have to figure out another way to see if she has any information on her brother."
Commander Lane was Alissa's older brother. They all grew up together from the moment their family moved into the castle, many years ago before they started their schooling. Alissa was always the beautiful and smart one, keeping the boys in line, and in return they were her protectors. Making sure she was safe and sound throughout the years.
From the moment Alissa died, Lane was hell bent on finding his sister's murderer, Reed Harlow. Luckily we were one step closer to figuring everything out.
Heath was always in love with her from the moment they were old enough to truly realize what love meant. It was fate when they both turned of age to seek out their soulmates, and they instantly found one another. He could never forget the smell of strawberries and roses, the way he would hold her small hand in his. It's where his strength came from.
Lane's words snapped him back to reality.
"She seems to be attracted toward you. It's been years since my beloved sisters death, Heath. Do the usual King Heath charm, make her feel as if you like her, and she'll tell you everything. Don't feel guilty, believe me." Lane said nonchalantly while giving Heath a brotherly pat on his back.
Lane's hands were folded behind his back as they walked, he knew it was a plan that would succeed. No one, not one girl, could resist a Castleman's charm. Money, good looks, connections. It was all a woman wanted in a man nowadays.
"So you're saying I should trick her?" Heath said. It didn't sound like such a bad idea. He'd be able to get what he wanted on both ends. Spending time with her and getting the truth about Reed out of her.
