Deep Within Time: I | Wrong Office

The sweet chirping of birds rang on Mahiah's ears that was supposed to wake her up, but the tenderness that came from their yellow beaks urged her to nuzzle her pillow more, and the warm morning light that was always so gentle on the skin would make her fall into the abyss of deep slumber served as a morning greeting. Another perfect day to sleep and take a break from the shackles of duties. However, the load of paperwork is unavoidable as her height increased a few inches every year.

"Milady...." The girl who tied her hair in a bun shook Mahiah's shoulders, which started a never ending failed attempt every morning.

"No use, Erika. She needs a good whacking before she gets up." Shaking her head, the girl with squared spectacles was darting her gaze towards another maid who was currently preparing the Princess' jewelry, her hands were controlling the movement of the brush that was straightening the folds of a purple dress. "Lina, we will really appreciate a little help."

Lina faced them with pouting lips. Being the Sorceress in the group had always put her in great disadvantage. She gets most of the house work due to her ability to finish everything with her hands-swooshing as she arrange the princess' mess. "Fine, I will be sure to take your place." Melissa, the girl with spectacles, replaced Lina and sorted the set of jewels-choosing something that would fit their lady's purple dress.

"I shall leave her in your care. I need to fill her tub." With a sweet smile plastered on her lips, Erika went to the bathroom to ready Mahiah's tub, leaving a pouting Lina behind.

She lets out a sigh before flicking her fingers. A clump of Mana coated her fingers and slipped out of her grip to form a catnip-shaped object that would be ticklish once it grazed your skin. It rocketed to the Princess' ears and started tickling her skin. Mahiah-feeling a weird sensation-took her pillow and draped it over her neck, both hands pinned the sides of her pillow to block all sounds.

"Princess, another thick set of paperwork is at your desk. We might finish it at midnight if you lazed up." Truly, a thick document was placed above her desk, and solving it would probably take hours to finish everything. Last time, Mahiah stayed awake until two in the morning because she slept past her ideal time to wake up.

"Princess, you have a scheduled meeting with your parents." Under the soft pillow was Mahiah's shaking head. She knows what's waiting ahead, especially the meeting with her father.

"Never." Mahiah purred and sprawled her arms wide as an answer. After a few more tickling, pulling, and arguing, Mahiah stood up and went straight to her bathroom with a pout plastered in her lips.

With her head buried on both knees, her maids washed her up. Mahiah tends to act spoiled-rotten if she's forced, or if she's not in the mood to run errands, and today is one of the unlucky days that her maids needed to face with determination in order to perform their duties to the crown. Melissa-who was in charge of washing her hair-noticed that her birthmark glowed brighter once more.

"Milady, your birthmark is more radiant than last week." Melissa was smiling as it looked mesmerizing, like a gem embedded on her nape, but Mahiah's face radiated otherwise.

"It means I am growing older each day." Growing older would meant marching towards marriage. No one dared to speak a word. It is obvious that their lady does not want to talk about her personal issues concerning her...eligibility for marriage.

After dressing up, Mahiah sat on her desk to check the papers that was meant for her office. As a princess, Mahiah's job was to solve the council's so-called minor problems that is suitable for a woman. It was a repetitive process of approving papers, approving license for citizenship, funds for the roads, assistance in harvesting crops, and things that looked unworthy in the eyes of the council.
