Well here we go, bear with me as I started this like 4 years ago lmao. Might be a bit redundant and I'm sure my writing style will be a bit different. Annnnd I'm writing this on my phone instead of a laptop so expect spelling and grammatical errors. I work from 11pm to 7am and have a 9 month old baby sooo this is my only time available to write 🙃 as I've said before!! Any suggestions!, requests!, feedback! ALWAYS welcomed and encouraged!!
Onto the story :)Chapter 5
--------------------------Eddie dropped me off in the parking garage near the door to my office, rather than the front of the building to avoid the vultures that wait with their cameras for the celebrities constantly in and out of the building. We had been spotted out in public only a couple of times, sparking rumors in the tabloids, but so far nothing really interesting has come out of it. We never acknowledge them. I find them annoying but Eddie really can't stand the paparazzi.
Most of the time he will happily take photos with fans, when its that paps, he gets stiff as stone and tells me they're nothing but lowlife scum trying to find a bogus story to sell. As a journalist myself, it stings a bit, however I don't stalk people and sell lies about them and their personal lives.
Upon walking into the office, I immediately had a feeling this was going to be a hell of a day. There were assistants zooming around in a flustered, disorderly fashion. Papers were printing and copying at a rate I'd almost never seen in this office. There were phones ringing everywhere.
I stood near the door entrance and just stared for a good moment or two, my jaw hanging. If this was any indication for how the day was going to go, I was seriously considering just slipping back out the door and hope no one noticed. However, I was not so lucky.
Breaking me out of trance of utter shock, my (newly hired, young) assistant, Anya, popped up right in my face. She was carrying a stack of disorganized papers and she looked a frazzled mess. She handed me a few slightly crumpled pages and said, "The deadline for this months edition was bumped up to Friday, this week. Nobody is anywhere near done with the revisions and finalizing their articles."
"What do you mean the deadline was moved up to Friday?" I asked in a panic. "We still have another whole two weeks before it should be due! I still have my interview with J.K. Rowling today, plus most of my editing to my other two articles."
"Well..." she began, only fueling my anxiety even more. "Rowling called to cancel about fifteen minutes ago."
I could feel my face go red and nearly feel the steam coming out of my ears, I was so frustrated and I'd only just walked in the door. I snatched the rest of the papers from her and said, "Go and make yourself useful and get on the phone with every agent we have in the book and get me a replacement here ASAP."
She looked to the ground and nodded shyly before hurrying away, back to her desk. I brushed past her and into my office, slamming the door behind me. I dropped the papers on my desk and flung my purse into the guest seat. After pacing back and forth a few times, trying to come up with any solution at all while trying to breath and not have an anxiety attack, I slumped down into my chair and started to flip through the papers. I was suddenly overwhelmed with guilt at how I had spoken to Anya. After all, none of this was her fault, and she's just a 20-something girl new to the workforce. I decided I'd call her in to apologize in a bit after I'd calmed down some more and had some semblance of a plan in mind.
Figuring I would be here well into the night, I called Eddie.
"Hey babe, what's wrong? I just dropped you off," he answered.
"There's a whole cluster-fuck of fuckery going on here today. I won't be able to make lunch and I'll probably be home late as well," I sighed.
"Oh, that's alright. I know how important your job is to you, take all the time you need and I'll be home waiting for you with some take out. How does that sound?" Only he could find a way to make me smile in the midst of the shit storm that was happening around me.
"That sounds amazing Eddie. You really are the best," Glancing at the papers on my desk again I added sarcastically, "Find me an interesting celebrity to interview today while you're at it, J.K. bailed."
"Sorry to hear that dear, I know how excited you were. Call me later when you get the chance though, I have to go for now. I have an audition, wont hold my breath though, its not my usual type. Love you."
"Alright babe, good luck, I'm sure you'll do great. You'll have to tell me about the part later. Love you too." With that we hung up and I got started on my mound of papers to edit before submission.
It was getting to be lunch time and I was nearly through one of my articles. There was a quiet knock, somewhat hesitant knock at the door. I suddenly remembered Anya and how awful I was to her. I called for her to come in.
" Ms. Mailor? Are you terribly busy at the moment?" Anya asked tentatively, probably worried I'd yell at her again.
"No sweetheart, please come in," I beckoned. "First off, I wanted to apologize for my behavior earlier. It was inappropriate and unfair to you. You are doing a wonderful job here and I appreciate all of your help. Now, did you need help with something, did you find a replacement for the interview?"
She was finally looking me back in the eye and I could tell she felt much better. "Well yes actually, I found a couple for you to choose from. James McAvoy is available for a interview this evening, I have his number for you to call. We also have Emilia Clarke available for a phone interview any time after 2 pm."
"Wonderful! Do me a favor, call James and set up the appointment, just text me the info. I'll work on my Q&A for him and we'll be set. Thank you, is there anything else?"
"I'm going downstairs to the food cart to grab a quick lunch, would you like me to bring you something?" Now that she had mentioned food, I realized I was starving.
"What a lifesaver, you are! Yes, just a tuna salad and a soda will be fine my dear, thank you." I handed her some money from my wallet and she was on her way.
I sent a quick text to Eddie before getting back to work, 'found replacement, call you later xx'
I put my phone in my purse and got to typing up questions for James McAvoy. James happened to be an actor whose worked I really enjoyed. X-Men and Unbreakable were a couple of my favorite series. Not to mention he was in the recent IT: Chapter two recently, I knew I'd have plenty to ask him.
It didn't take me long to type up my questions and get the file ready for the interview. Shortly after I finished, Anya texted me the details of where James wanted to meet for his interview.
' Zizzi,
73 Strand, Charing Cross; 6pm'
Okay, so not too fancy, what I'm wearing will be fine. I knew it'd be a late night.
By 5pm I had finished two out of my three documents. All I had to do was my interview, type it up, review it which would take probably most of the next work day and it'll be ready by Friday. Eddie had never texted me back. I didn't think anything of it, figuring he was probably busy being he had that audition, he may have had to stay back or or maybe he was working on something else waiting for my call. I made a mental note to call him on my way home after my interview with James.
I still had a bad feeling about the day even after completing the majority of my work. Little did I know, that feeling in the pit of my stomach would have been absolutely right by the end of the night.
------------------------------------------------------
and there you have it folks,
TO BE CONTINUED!!!
I know there wasn't much Eddie action in this chapter BUT, I promise, this is actually going somewhere. Also, I'm not very good at dialogue but ITS GETTING BETTER.
PS BIG THANK YOU to everyone who still follows this pitiful excuse of a story, you the real MVPs and I'll try to make it worth it :)
