After eating, Lyra took me to a room.
She told me this was my designated bedroom, and that I will be sleeping here.
I sat down on the soft bed and reached my hands out to the blanket. It was soft, silky and very comforting.
I felt like my body knew what to do, but my brain was a few beats behind. Lyra said that I would understand soon, but I didn't understand how.
She showed me how to open and close my bedroom door with a hand sensor on the right-hand side of the door. Then she left me alone.
I wasn't sure how I felt about being alone.
I wrapped my body up in the silky blanket and rubbed my face against it.
I could hear soft voices just outside my room and my head snapped up.
I crept towards the door and pressed my ear against the icy metal trying to hear who was talking. I'm not sure why my body led me to do this, but curiosity took over.
"Dude, do I need to put a beeper on you. Stop scaring me." I could hear Lyra reprimanding someone.
"I'm serious, I'm over all these newbies, and Phee says there are forty-four others to wake up. I've been looking at Centauri Earth for a month now. I want to feel the breeze on my face." Nev's voice said.
"Just wait a little longer. I'm sure everything will become clearer once we have everyone." she told him.
"You always say that. Wait until Phee tells us what to do! Wait until another video comes up, of someone long dead, who will give us more instructions. Wait until we can form a plan." He imitated Lyra's voice.
Her laugh boomed outside my door making my lips stretch over my teeth again. For some reason, her laugh made me happy.
"You are supposed to have a clear mind! You are our Historian, go and write something." She sounded a little annoyed.
"Yeah...yeah! But I need to get down to the planet to start noting things of importance down. I'm sick of writing 'Estrella threw her book at Nix and made him cry because she didn't get her own way.' After a few pages of the same shit, I start to go crazy!" He snapped back.
"I wonder what they made Nova for." Lyra's voice became quieter, but I could still just make out what she said.
This conversation was turning towards me, and I really wanted more information; I pressed my ear harder against the door, the cold biting into my skin.
"She's hot." Nev answered.
Hot?
As in my body temperature?
I felt my forehead and I felt fine, I didn't understand what he meant.
"Behave! As your captain, I'm telling you to leave her alone." Lyra sounded amused.
Captain? Like Captain Herra?
My brain was swimming with all this new information and my head started to pound. I rubbed my fingertips on my left temple and continues to listen.
"Whatever, she seems a bit uptight, anyways." Nev snapped.
Uptight? What does that mean? He says like it's supposed to be an insult. I wish my brain would function properly!
Lyra laughed, but it was soon cut off by a blaring alarm that filled my room causing me to fall to the floor and I shoved my hands over my ears. My room turned bright red.
I stood up, the blanket falling to the ground, and opened my door. Lyra and Nev were at the end of the hallway. I chased after them, catching the end of their conversation.
"...releasing dangerous levels of radiation into space. Get Pheonix." Lyra told Nix who nodded and put his finger behind his ear. His mouth started moving and then stopped when he saw me.
"What's going on?" I asked, my breathing coming out fast.
"Go back to your room!" He berated me.
"No." I crossed my arms across my chest.
"Yes!" He snapped; his eyes darted to where Lyra has disappeared.
"No!" I growled, the feeling tickled my throat and I coughed.
"Fine, just don't get in the way." He spun on his heal and marched after Lyra.
I followed him to a large room with chairs, screens, a lot of buttons and a large wide window looking out into space. A large planet sat in the distance.
That must be the planet Herra talked about.
Nix came running into the room, skidding to a stop.
Lyra referred to this room as the flight deck. I stood in the corner and watched them work.
My whole body shook, but I didn't feel cold, I felt strange.
"Nix, I need your help with the shields." Lyra demanded as she sat down in a large chair as her fingers flew over the panels.
"Why does this always happen when a new person wakes up?" He growled as she sat in front of a screen and used his hands to drag objects around on an outline of a ship.
"Radiation levels at thirty seven percent."Phee said over the alarms.
"Are the shields stable enough for this flair?" Lyra asked.
"Sheilds are at ninety five percent. Radiation will lower shields by twenty percent." Phee informed everyone.
My head snapped between whoever was speaking and my neck started to hurt. I wanted to ask what was going on, but my mouth was frozen shut.
"That should be enough until the shields power back up. Let's hope we don't have another flair." Lyra nodded her head.
"Will some shut the god damn alarm off!" She bellowed.
The alarm turned off, giving my ears a much-needed break. Lyra and Nix leaned back in their chairs, sweat dampening their foreheads.
Lyra looked around the room and then spotted me, her face dropped, she looked shocked and concerned for a moment, then her face went bank.
"What is she doing here?" She asked and the way she said it made me feel like I had been slapped in the face.
"She followed me here," Nev smirked in his chair. "Well that was fun!" His arms crossed over his chest.
His expression made me think he was more annoyed then amused.
"Go and write about it or something!" Lyra mocked him.
"Go and space walk." He fired back and walked out of the room.
"What happened?" I said, my voice shaking.
"Nothing for you to worry about, how about we get you back to your room. You need to rest." Lyra deflected my question and her eyes darted between me and Nix.
I nodded, exhaustion taking over and my legs started to feel weak again.
