Finding Tegan

The discovery chapter 2

I figured I can't let my mum keep secrets from me, especially since I was the one who helped with Rachel when she was sick or when mum was at work, I'm not the single parent she is.

I walked down the stairs carefully because rachel had only just got to sleep and getting her to bed is like waiting for my dad to come back. Of course my mum wasn't in the lounge, the very time I wanted to speak to her she was in the kitchen on the phone to the "electritian".

I wasn't going to soulk about this, I mean what's the point everything else is going down hill. I would use it to my advantage by listening in on the conversation.

I slightly opened the door. It creaked. "Hold on I think somebodys listening" my mum said starting to walk to the now open door. She saw the window open on the way. "Ah just a opened window, must have blown the door open" she said thankfully walking away. I silently sighed in relief and put my ear against the door.

"We can't call the police not now anyway" said mum biting her nails. Police? This was no electrian and it didn't sound like a boyfriend unless he was a partner in crime. The person on the phone did the talking for about 10 minutes then finally mum chips in. "You can't possibly think I'd try and get Tegan back" whos Tegan? " I know she's my daughter but I have to protect Lauren and Rachel and you very well know the same will happen to them"

I was shocked. This couldn't be happening. A sister? Danger? And a strange man on the phone.

I totally lost it and forcefully opened the door. "LAUREN" my mum yelled in shock. She looked like she was going to cry. I now started regretting that move. Rather then apologing I got straight in to businesses. "Who the heck is Tegan and more importantly who is on the phone?" My mum hung up and sank to the ground in tears. I felt terrible. I just made my mum break down and for what being nosey because I realised my life sucked without Josh.

"Mum I'm sorry I shouldn't have listened, I'll forget everything I heard." I said crouching down next to her.

"No don't it's about time you knew" she weeped.

I froze. Questions were flowing through my head. Was I ready to find out this? Was I going to regret this?

"Ok what? " I said looking her in the eyes.

"Your father left along time ago.."

"I know that" I said rudely.

"You were clueless I was pregnant before rachel came along, I knew it wouldn't last between your dad and I so I decided not to say since she'd live with your dad. When I had my baby girl we made sure you were at your grandmas. Your dad took her 4 days after and lived on his own with her, I fell back in love with him around 4 months later and not long after came rachel. Me and your dad could never be and split up again which left you, me and Rachel." She Spoke trying so hard not to show emotions.

As much as I was shocked about this I still needed to know more. "So what's wrong now then, why do you need to ring the police and why did you say it's to late to ring them now"

I said quietly.

"Well... In between all of what I said before. While your dad was alone, he needed money to help pay for his bills and my bills, he stupidly borrowed money of the local drug dealers. They said he owed them double every 2 months they waited for the money back..." she stopped talking and looked down at her feet. "Mum"

She lifted her head with tears rolling down her face.

"We couldn't afford to pay the money back so your dad did a runner with Tegan, today we still owe them money. I think today its over 2 million pounds."

"But it's ok now right they don't know were dad is?" There was a long pause.

"Wrong last month Tegan was wondering in the woods next door and one of the drug dealers found her by following her from school." This time I was shocked.

"Why though why?" I said starting to cry.

"Because if he doesn't pay before the 1st of december she will be killed, and we can't go to the police because your dad has broken the law and ran from the crime for stealing several times, just to get money to pay them back."
