Rayla pet Savior carefully on the back as Luma explained what had happened. Nina looked furious as she heard what Kaya had done to her friends.

"Honestly I'm glad Kaya was there," Luma finished. "It would've been so much worse if I was alone."

"It doesn't matter," Nina argued. "We should get back at her. This is bullshit."

"Calm down Nina we need to think rationally," Rayla advised. "First of all this clue she gave Luma, about doing nothing." Luma shrugged.

"I thought she was just talking about my fear," Luma said.

"But you said she also mentioned trying to do something and accomplishing nothing. Is she trying to tell us to stop looking for Dream?"

"Maybe but that'll just be her trying to get us to stop tracking her down," Nina said.

"Then why didn't she say something like 'Stop trying to find Dream, you'll never get her'?" Nina shrugged. "I think it was a warning of something outside her control."

"Whatever it is," Savior chipped in. "I think the point is we should regroup and talk through this. Besides if Rayla and I were attacked the others must've been attacked too. What if they need help?" Nina snorted but gave in, Rayla nodded in agreement and Luma shrugged.

"Rayla should stay here and recover," Luma said. "Nina and I can go looking for Error, Ink, Nightmare and Cross."

"Can I go after Nightmare?" Nina asked hopefully.

"No," the other three answered. Nina looked crestfallen. (I'm sorry Nina-chan but its for a reason.)

"I'll look for Nightmare," Luma said. "Nina can go after Error and Ink, they'll be easier to find and there's less of a chance she'll be weird." Rayla and Savior nodded. Nina pouted but nodded.

Alliah dabbed Riu's head with a wet piece of cloth, cleaning off the wound she'd gotten from breaking the wall into pieces. Riu sat quietly as she did, paying more attention to Kaya and Marrionette who were sitting beside them, talking.

"You managed to contact one of them after you got Riu out?" Marrionette asked. Kaya nodded.

"I was cryptic, that's always fun," She said, turning to Riu and winking. "Right Riu?" Riu gave her a small smile then winced as Alliah hit a particularly sensitive spot on her forehead.

"So what are we doing now?" Alliah asked, a bit distractedly.

"Now, we break Nightmare," Kaya answered.

"Break Nightmare?" Marrionette asked. Kaya nodded.

"Just you watch me."

Nightmare didn't realise he was nodding off until he found Cross shaking him awake. Her posture was impatient but her expression was concerned.

"What's wrong?" He asked groggily. Cross shook her head.

"We've only been sitting down for a few minutes and you're already about to pass out. Care to explain what's going on?" She asked. Nightmare shot her a smile.

"No."

"You're one stubborn bastard."

"It's one of my most redeeming qualities." Cross snorted.

"Along with a sense of superiority, overconfidence and an overbearing personality." Nightmare smiled.

"Glad to know you've been taking notes."

"You two fight like an old married couple," a voice called amusedly from behind the tree Nightmare was leaning against. That girl from before, Kaya, walked out of the afternoon sun's shadows to face them.

"You," Nightmare growled.

"Very observant," Kaya quipped. Nightmare attempted to stand up but fell back down almost immediately. Cross pulled out a knife and took a few steps back. Kaya held up a hand. "Oh no, I'm just here for one thing. No need to get violent." Both her eyes went pitch black and the smile dropped from her face. "If it makes you feel better, the majority of this hate is mine." She put her hand on Nightmare's cheek and a wave of dark hatred sent Cross staggering backwards as Nightmare howled in pain. When Cross finally opened her eyes Kaya was gone and Nightmare was unconscious. Still feeling the residual hatred she approached him slowly and put a hand on his arm.

"Nightmare?" She asked cautiously. He didn't respond. She leant closer. She could feel his breath on her face. "Nightmare?" She called again. His eyes snapped open and to Cross's surprise, they were a piercing bright blue. She took a few steps back and stumbled onto the ground. He didn't move, instead, he began coughing. But instead of blood what came out was a black gooey substance that ran down his chin. His eyes met hers' and she found they were panicked and scared. She couldn't resist the urge to help and she was right beside him in an instant.

"I told you," Nightmare coughed. "I can't go home. Now I can never go home." Cross rubbed his back.

"It's alright," she mumbled comfortingly. "It's alright."

Geno felt a tap on her back as she walked through the corridor. She stopped and Blue, Lust, Horror and Dust looked back at her in confusion.

"You guys go on ahead," she said. "I'll catch up." They shrugged and kept walking to the dining hall where they were having lunch.

"What is it?" She asked, turning to look at Reaper as soon as they were gone.

"That boy," he said. "I think I finally figured out who he is."

Can you feel my cringe as I realise I never specified that before this moment Nightmare was passive?

Hnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

It was such an epic moment too but I went back and checked and, assuming you've all been defaulting NM as corrupt, there has been no way of knowing he was passive this whole time.

Hnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

Ima go back and add a note in the prologue for new readers but I'm gonna leave this here so everyone can know my shame.

Someone take away my author's licence for I have sinned!!
