It's been a fortnight since my birthday, and in that time I managed to complete my next swimming achievement. I've been swimming since I was really little, and I got all 4 of the main swimming grades when I was in year 3 because I went to two swimming lessons a week. Now, because I still put in a lot of the extra practice, I am a whole level above the other people in my group, and we're probably the most insanely talented group there is in Britain (or so people tell me. And when I say 'people' I mean my mum and the swimming instructor). It's not a special power or anything, it really is all down to dedicated training and hard work, but I always wish it was a little easier. I shove my costume, which is pretty much permanently damp, into my swimming bag and head downstairs. As I pass the back door I see that the post has come so I take the small pile of envelopes to put onto the kitchen table. Most of them are for my father, but my mother has a postcard from one of her many foreign pen pals. This time it is Sarah from Iceland. One of the letters is a plain envelope that looks very formal and inexplanatory. It is addressed to me. Confused, I shove it inside my jacket to read on the way to the swimming pool.

As I take a seat at the back of the bus, (there are plenty to choose from in a morning), I remove the letter from my pocket. Cautiously, I ease open the end of the envelope and pull out the piece of the paper nestled inside. The colours and font are unfamiliar to me, and it takes me a second to realise that it's my bank statement. They must have redone their design. I skim through the text, checking for any errors in transactions. None (that I can remember). I fold it back up and put it in a pocket in my bag, turning the volume up on my phone. Teenagers by My Chemical Romance blasts into my ears, and I quickly change the song to Bastille so that I can get more pumped up for exercising.
