Not Being Able to Skate Might Actually Be A Good Thing

Will's POV:
I laced up my skates with a final tug, and stepped onto the ice. As soon as my foot touched the frozen water, I felt a sense of relief and security. I had just begun working at a hospital, and the work had already taken such a big toll on me, mentally and physically. I knew I had to set aside time for me to enjoy myself, so why not let loose by doing something I'd loved since I could remember? Skating had always calmed me down, since I loved how secure I felt on the ice, and how much control I had over my fluid movements.

There were many families around, so I couldn't go as fast as I liked in fear of hitting someone, but it was still amazing. The rush of cold air hitting my face filled me with joy and adrenaline, I could feel the weariness from last month drifting away. I continued skating, caught up in my own world and ignoring everyone around me, when I saw someone struggling to stay upright on the ice, and holding onto the edge of the rink to prevent them falling. I skated closer and saw that it was a young man dressed in all black, with a huge scowl on his face. Being the very kind person I am, I went over to him and asked

"Hey, do you need help?"

The man got so startled that he let go of the ledge and tried to regain his balance, but it was too late. With a "thud", he fell backwards onto the ice and let out a low moan of pain.

"Fuck." he muttered.

"Oh gods, I'm so sorry! I was just trying to help! Here, let me at least help you up." I rushed.

I grabbed his pale hands and heaved him upwards, only to find out I'd used a bit too much force, so we both went tumbling backwards. At the last moment though, I managed to hang onto the ledge with one arm, while the other was around the pale boy I'd just met. We both awkwardly got up and I cleared my throat.

"Are you okay?" I questioned.

"I'm fine." he grumbled, rubbing his head

"Look, I'm really sorry-"Save it." he snapped, and tilted his head upwards to look into my eyes. A blush worked its way up my neck and across my cheeks as I realized, Holy Hera was he gorgeous. He had long, silky, midnight black hair that fell into his large, warm, chocolate brown eyes. His skin was dangerously pale, emphasizing the light blush he had growing on his cheeks and made his pink, plump lips look even better. I decided to start over and stuck out my gloved hand

"I'm Will Solace."

He regarded me suspiciously, and hesitated, holding his hand close to himself, reminding me of a tiny, clueless kitten. After probably thinking over the consequences of introducing himself to a crazy guy who'd just knocked him over twice, he raised his arm and shook my hand.

"Nico di Angelo."

I didn't speak Italian, but even I could understand what his last name meant. Angel. There wasn't a word truer to describe him. I had to get to know him better, I had never felt so strongly about anyone I'd met before. Luckily, I knew just what had to be done.

"Do want me to teach you the basics of skating?"

"Uh."

Nico looked like he really wanted to learn how to skate, but seemed too shy to admit it, so I grabbed his hand and tried leading him along. When that didn't seem to work out, I grabbed both of his hands in mine, and things went a little smoother. I skated backwards slowly, while he held my hands in a death grip to avoid falling. Not that I minded though, his small hands fit perfectly in mine. I decided to strike up a conversation, so I asked

"Why were you trying to skate by yourself if you didn't know how?"

"Oh, uhh, my friend had promised to show me how to skate, but got called away by his girlfriend. She and this other crazy friend of ours set her house on fire and he's the smartest out of the three of them, so naturally, he rushed away to help them."

"Sounds kind of like Superman." I joked

Nico's POV:
I laughed, this had been an on going joke between Jason, Percy, and Piper for years.

"You could say that." I responded back.

I still couldn't believe that I had the luck to be taught how to skate by such a hot guy! Or maybe it wasn't luck, since I had basically just fallen at the sound of his voice, but he didn't seem too concerned at my weird antics, right? Besides, his hands were in mine, and every time I stumbled (which happened quite a lot), he would put a hand on my waist to steady me.

Will smiled at me and then, with a twinkle in his bright blue eyes, said

"Okay Nico, I'm going to let go of one of your hands and you try to keep on skating, okay?"

That was not okay, but I nodded anyways, and felt strange and cold when he pulled his hand away from my death grip. I held on even tighter to his other hand, while he chuckled at my actions. We continued to skate around, pretty slowly and clumsily, until I had to sit down. We sat at the edge of the rink and I took the time to thank Will.

"Hey, thanks for teaching me how to skate. You didn't have to-"I know I didn't have to, but I wanted to. It was fun."

Wow. That was a first. He must've noticed the surprise clearly etched on my face, since Will frowned slightly and said

"Nico, that really was fun for me. I really enjoyed hanging out with you. Maybe we could do it again sometime?"

"Yeah, sure, that sounds great, not just great, amazing." I rambled.

Will noticed my flustered state and smirked

"Am I making you nervous?" he taunted.

"Shut up." I grumbled, and snatched his phone out of his hands, putting my number in his contacts. He took a look at the name and shook his head. Will typed something in and showed me

"Sunshine." I read out. "Seriously, Will?"

"The sun makes people feel warm and happy, just like you make me feel warm and happy. You're my sunshine." Will finished.

My cheeks instantly flared up, and Will noticed, because he laughed and told me to hand my phone over to him so he could put his number in. I did, still slightly in a daze. I couldn't believe it, someone actually liked me, and had gotten to know me. And that someone was a very hot blond who could go after anyone, but chose me. I mean, he was flirting with me, right? You don't go around giving free skating lessons and your number to anyone.

Satisfied with that answer, I leaned back against the boards and sighed. Just then, I heard someone shouting my name. I looked around and saw Jason, Piper, and Leo waving from one of Jason's many cars.

"Hey, Death Breath, are you coming or not?" Leo yelled.

"Death Breath, that's a good one. I better remember to use that the next time I see you." Will said. I gave him a light shove and turned to my friends.

"Coming!" I yelled.

Will helped me take off my skates and put them into my bag. I was about to walk off when he stopped me and gave me a light peck on my cheek. Leo whooped in the background, and I think I heard Piper smacking him across the face.

"Bye Nico!" Will called as he skated away.

"B-bye Will." I stuttered out. Gods, I finally understood why all those girls in those movies become weak-minded every time their crush got close to them. The effect a person can have on you is tremendous. I only hoped that Will felt the same way and that feeling would last for him.
