Trigger Warnings: swearing, implied sex with someone way older than you(please let me know if I missed any).
While waiting for Sage to walk together to school, I had gotten a text. I checked.
'Y/N? Where are you? We need the script!'
Shit. I quickly texted Sage that I had to leave for something about the student council and bolted as fast as I could to school.
"You're the last one here, Y/N"
"I know," I said in an annoyed tone as I rolled my eyes. That guy just got to my nerves.
"Do you have the speech?" Asked the president.
I nodded and checked my backpack. I sifted through it but I couldn't find the paper. It was quite messy but I must have been able to see it. Shoot! I couldn't find it. I got more nervous as I continued to look for the paper. I realised I forgot it at home but I knew what to do.
"I'm sorry but I forgot it at home. I do have the document on my phone. Could I go print it?" I said showing my phone.
"Ok but hurry. We have a short time to practice before the assembly. I still can't believe you forgot the damn thing."
"Could I go with Y/N?" A voice asked shyly, coming from behind me.
"It's better if you stay here to practice your speech, Thomas." Said the council president.
Thomas mentioned that he practiced with me yesterday and the council president agreed for him to come with me. As I walked through the empty halls, Thomas caught up with me. When we got to the printer room I took out my phone and started looking for the speech document. As I started setting up the printer Thomas said:
"They seem to not like you."
I stopped. Did he notice? I asked who he was referring to but I didn't want to acknowledge the fact that someone noticed. I- it couldn't be happening, right?
"The council. They don't seem to like you very much."
"Ah yeah, that..." I said biting my lip.
"It's ok if you don't want to talk about it!" He mentioned quickly.
"No, it's fine. It's just... I'm what's known as a 'perfect student'. Perfect grades, best academic performance. Name a trophy and I've probably won it at least twice. Some people have spread a rumour about me that I was-" I paused.
Was I really telling this to him? Yes, yes I was. I took a deep breath and continued.
"-doing favours... for the teachers so they would give me good grades. I hate even now talking about it," I shuddered. "It's not my fault I'm intelligent. The only friend that stuck with me through those tough times was my best friend, Sage. They're the reason why I haven't switched schools."
The page was finally printed. I took it out and Thomas and I headed back to the auditorium. The walk back was filled with an awkward air in the atmosphere. We finally got back and all of the council started practicing their parts for the speech.
______________
Finally, it was time. I was so nervous but at least I had Thomas there to calm me down. Sage would be probably shouting words of encouragement at me but since they weren't a part of the student council they couldn't be here right now. I took a deep breath in and started. After I finished Thomas took over and I quickly went down the stairs to meet Sage. We went and sat on one of the chairs while we watched Thomas make his speech. Then I heard someone say:
"Ugh, I can't believe Y/N got to be with Thomas."
"I know right? Y/P is so annoying. I honestly think Thomas doesn't even like Y/N. I mean, like no one likes Y/P." Said another.
Sage turned around and gave them both a death glare, shutting both of them up. I smiled. Sage was the type of person who looks like they could kick your ass (they can), but when you get to know them, they're actually really nice.
_____________
After the speech, most people clapped and cheered, some just rolled their eyes. Most of the students went to Thomas just to get a selfie or an autograph, probably just to brag on social media. After it, Thomas went to me, and I introduced him to Sage.
"Nice to meet you, Thomas the Dank Engine." They said with a wink.
"Nice to meet you too, Sage." He said almost laughing at their joke.
The rest of the afternoon we went to a nearby park and started joking around. Eventually Sage had to go home, leaving Thomas and me alone. We went and sat on the grass and looked at the stars. The sky was clear, the moon was as bright as all the other stars around it. A light breeze filled the air. We stared at the sky in silence. For the first time in a while, I felt... happy. That warm, fuzzy feeling in my chest felt so good. I never wanted this moment to end.
As I took a deep breath I heard a small buzz. I took out my phone and saw a notification. I read the text and sighed. I stood up.
"What's wrong Y/N?"
"No, it's nothing Thomas. I just forgot that today my parents came back from their business trip."
"Do you want me to come with you? It is getting late and it could get very dangerous."
"Sure."
While we walked back to my house Thomas and I shared a bunch of silly and stupid stories. We finally got to my house and I knocked on my door. My mom opened the door and hugged me.
"Hi, sweetie. Where have you been? Looks like you finally got a boyfriend, how cute!" She said while looking at Thomas.
"Mom! He's not my boyfriend, we're just friends!" I said as I felt my cheeks slowly get warmer.
"I'm sorry Y/N's mom but I have to go now."
"Oh, but why don't you join us for dinner? And you can call me Ms. Y/L/N."
"Thomas, just say yes. She's gonna keep insisting until you say yes." I whispered to Thomas.
"Sure Ms. Y/L/N."
Thomas and I walked inside and greeted my dad. The rest of the night was spent mostly laughing at Thomas' and my dad's dad jokes. Time passed by so quickly this particular night. Thomas left a few hours later and my parents immediately started to question me.
"Soo, is he your boyfriend?"
"No, dad! He's just a friend."
"When and where did you meet him?"
"I met him a few days ago at school, mom."
"So he's a new student?"
"No. He came to give LGBT+ talks to our school. Mom, dad, it's nice to have you back but I'm tired and I'm gonna go to my room. Ok?"
"Alright honey. Good night!" Said both of my parents in unison.
I picked up my plate and put it in the sink. I waved goodbye and walked up the stairs to my room. I plopped on my bed and picked up my phone. I looked at the time and saw that I had a text from Thomas. He was asking when we could meet up. I told him I was free anytime and he suggested at three, tomorrow. I said that I was free and that time was okay.
I put my phone down, changed into my pyjamas, and sat in my bed. I started thinking about what had happened today. My mind started thinking back to when we were in the park. The warm fuzzy feeling I felt came back. I felt happy when Thomas was with me while eating dinner. I couldn't explain why he made me feel this way. I was confused, to say the least.
I decided that I wouldn't dwell on it. I wasn't going to get confused about it, at least for now. I got into my bed and started to drift to sleep.
