Ada Finst: the best (and worst) thing that ever happened to Cooper. Her long brown hair, golden eyes, frisky attitude, and, most importantly, how well she could hide her feelings. When Cooper felt that scar, he almost pissed himself. Ada was Cooper’s first. His first everything. First kiss, first real relationship, they even took each other’s virginity. They were together for almost two years. The only reason they took a break was because she had gotten a job on the east coast. They’re both touchy, cuddly people, so they knew instantly they couldn’t do it long-distance. For a while, they kept in touch, but after those first few weeks, it seemed impossible.
Cooper came up from under the water, still holding Ada’s hand. “Ada! Holy shit!” Her eyes widened. Those bright brown eyes that still burned right into Cooper’s heart. “Cooopeerr!” They hugged, swimming towards the wall. Ada looked so good. Her black bikini had gold accents on it, complimenting the freshly dyed highlights in her hair. She wasn’t wearing any makeup, but really, who fucking cares anymore. “I knew that was you, Cooper. I knew it.” Cooper pushed her against the wall of the pool and held her close. “You’re back,” he whispered. “Oh, I can’t believe you’re actually here. I missed you so much.” Ada’s lips moved down to Cooper’s neck, her legs wrapping around his waist. “Cooper, I missed you so much. I was so upset the first few months, and then I tried to get out more, but when I even tried to think about being with someone else, I couldn’t stop thinking about you instead and… and I wanted to call you, or come and visit or something but I was so scared without you.”
Cooper’s heart was racing. He grabbed a random beer, half empty and sitting on the edge of the pool, and chugged it. His anxiety faded quickly, and before he knew it, his lips were on hers. He could just barely hear his friends cheering him on as he deepened the kiss and rolled his hips up into hers. “Cooper! Calm down, baby,” Ada laughed, pulling her lips away from his. Cooper lay his head down on her shoulder. “I missed you so much. So, so much.” Ada put her legs down, moving away from Cooper so they could look at each other. “Are you drunk?” Cooper shook his head. “No, I’ve only had like, three beers or something. Three and a half. We’ve only been here for like, half an hour.” Joko walked up behind Ada and handed Cooper the beer he had wanted. ‘Nice timing, Joko.’ Ada made a face of disappointment and surprise. “Cooper, you already smell like alcohol.” “I do?” Rolling her eyes and watching Cooper with compassion, Ada responded. “Yes. You reek.” He stared into her honey-brown eyes, blankly. “Well, shit. Everyone else is probably drunk too; fuck it,” He responded, moving in closer to Ada, pressing her against the wall again. “Ada.”
Cooper heard her sigh in defeat. “Yes, Cooper?” He hugged her again, pressing impossibly close to her body. She placed one of her hands on the back of his neck, guiding his head to her chest. Her other hand rested on the small of his back. This was how he liked to be held. Only by her. He relaxed into her touch. “I can’t lose you again. Please, please tell me you’re staying.” Ada ran her hand through his hair. “I have one month to look at a few places to stay.” Cooper’s grip tightened and Ada felt him smile. “They wanna make sure I can get right back to work when I move back over here. Since... I’m gonna be the manager of their first west coast shop.” Cooper went on to give Ada more kisses, telling her how proud he was, over and over.
Now on the opposite side of the pool, after talking to a different group of friends, Carson watched Ada smile and thought back to the night they had shared together in the dark. For just a second, Carson saw her look up at him, and when she did, her smile dissolved, replaced with a weak oh-i-didn't-know-you-were-gonna-be-here-but-hi kind of smile… An awkward one. Carson gave a genuine smile back, thinking it was cute how strange she was sometimes. He couldn’t wait to have her again. He leaned back against the house and remembered how her hands had felt running down his sides, how her lips felt against his hot skin, and (his favorite part,) her taste. At first, he felt bad, but her and Cooper weren’t dating at the moment, so… it was fine? Really though… Carson ached to feel her lips against his just one more time.
