Caleb dragged Norma into the entrance of the basement and pushed her down the stairs. As she tumbled down, she had hit her head multiple times, creating loud banging noises.
Norma knew her father wouldn't wake up from any of the crashing, he was too drugged up with the alcohol and sleeping pills. Same with her mother, she was always sedated and didn't move.
By the time Norma hit the ground, the door was shut and Caleb was already walking down the steps. Norma hoped Alex wasn't still in the house. She didn't want this secret to get out. She would die of embarrassment and hurt.
-
As the room spun, Norma started crawling the opposite direction as Caleb stalked towards her. She didn't get very far for Caleb, the beast, picked her up by her waist and threw her over his shoulder. Norma lifted her head as Caleb brought them to his bed, everything was swaying and she could feel blood leaking somewhere from her head, but that didn't matter, the only thing that mattered in that second was making eye-contact with the person she hoped wouldn't be there.
Norma's eyes grew wide but before she could do anything, she was thrown on the bed and looking up at her disgusting brother.
"Please...no." Norma begged in a soft voice. She felt weak and could feel herself losing consciousness.
"You made me look like a fool. I know someone is in this house right now, as we speak, and I bet it's someone you know. Maybe a boyfriend? Probably not." Caleb growled in a low and dangerous tone.
Norma didn't react; everything was getting dark as she tried listening to what her brother had to say.
-
Alex watched the scene play out in front of him. He had to stop this madness. He didn't know how though. Caleb was much older and bigger than Alex. So he continued to watch which disturbed him. He watched as Caleb unbuckled his pants and touched Norma's hip in an inappropriate way.
Alex looked around and found an old pipe, so he chose that as his weapon and quietly walked behind Caleb.
Norma saw Alex and kept her eyes on him, making Caleb look back. Alex took that as his chance to hit him as hard as he could. He made sure Caleb was unconscious before he attended to Norma.
"We're gonna get you out of here, okay? I promise I will get you out of this mess." Alex whispered, picking up the girl who had the prettiest face in White Pine Bay.
Norma gripped on to Alex's shirt the tightest she could. She wanted to thank him and tell him that he was an angel but she was losing her senses.
-
She woke up in a cold sweat. Her head was pounding and she felt dirty. She went to move her right arm but it wouldn't budge. She quickly looked to her side and saw him holding her hand tightly while he slept.
She sighed and grabbed his hand back, gentle enough so it wouldn't wake him, and looked up at the ceiling. She felt relieved for some unknown reason. She felt this weight lifted off of her and now she could finally breathe.
She wondered what had happened to her brother or if her family was looking for her. Hopefully not. Maybe they were already in jail or maybe her brother was dead and her father ran away.
There were so many possibilities but she shook the thoughts from her mind and admired the boy who had saved her.
She stroked his hand gently as she started to realize that she liked Alex. More than what she thought she had- more than friends. As she kept her gaze on him, he started waking up. She stopped all movements and stared up at the ceiling as Alex raised his head and looked at her.
"How long have you been awake?" Alex asked groggily
"Only a couple of minutes. Did you sleep well?" Norma asked, looking at Alex now.
"Fine. Are you okay?" Alex asked, examining Norma carefully.
"Of course. My head just hurts a little, but i'll be fine.".
Alex looked at Norma deeply. He felt a connection that scared him and Norma felt the same. Neither of them had felt this safe with another person for a long time, and it was refreshing.
