"Years ago, before the outbreak started, he was made by the government to have the ability to control a mass. Every morning, he'd wake up to a syringe welcoming him. He grew in a fear of needles, I couldn't do anything about it. I just hear his screams every night, and I can only watch them inject the thing on his neck — on a daily basis. When we were children, he had the most traumatizing experience. I can only cry out his name from my cell."
"I.. I'm sorry to hear that." Jimin was left speechless.
Yoonji laughed bitterly as she grabs the box of milk from Jimin's hand, chugging it down before continuing.
"His very being was supposed to be a weapon for the upcoming world war, but it backfired. My brother's brain couldn't take the strong chemicals. The purpose of the daily intake of the same syringe was for him to hypnotize the world, to control their minds. But my brother himself wasn't able to control it, causing his system to self-destruct and rot. It made his body produce some kind of virus, which is now affecting the world. The virus can only be transferred once injected. So it started with his teeth, I suppose. The chemical corrupted his mind. Now, he's gone feral. Like a wild animal on loose."
Jimin blinks uncontrollably, trying to process everything. "So.. He bit everyone?"
"He probably bit a bunch, and then the virus easily spread like some kind of disease." Yoonji stares at the carton of milk. "To be honest, I was thinking he could just be hungry for meat. If that's the case, he could easily find his way to a living population. That's the real reason why I stayed near the conservation camp, I was hoping I could see him. I know I couldn't bring him back, it's just.. At least I could hold him back and tame him."
Jimin was just silent, slowly lowering his head down as his shoulders slumped. He didn't actually mind the coldness of her story, he's trying to reminisce the time he would see her on the oak tree. Jimin felt deeply sorry, he could feel his heart swell. He didn't know it was something crucial to her, like a deep wound. He could've just stayed quiet during that time and stopped talking about himself.
"When we were children, we were trained excessively to defend ourselves to the point we could feel our bones shattering inside. They would throw both of us in a room of men that would beat us up, and we will starve if we can't tackle them down. Which was impossible! The two of us can't withstand them even if we decide to merge ourselves together. They were triple our size! But all they would tell us was — you are designed for that, you are designed for that. It makes me fucking sick."
Yoonji tried to gulp the lump that was forming in her throat, but she just couldn't. Jimin tried to understand, he just stared at her misty eyes and waited for her to continue.
She took a deeper inhale. "That was the time my psychokinesis was awakened, but it was just a little glow back then. After my brother went ferocious, I knew I was the next in line. My training doubled, and they triggered my psychokinesis in the most traumatizing way possible, it just had to be awakened in a short period of time."
"Is that why you don't want to use it?" Jimin managed to ask somehow, hoping it was something safe to talk about.
"Mhm." Yoonji hums as a response. "Using my psychokinesis just reminds me of the days I was tortured just for it to come out."
