'This is NOT a love letter', he'd wrote, "Yeah right it'd better.
'Maybe not a letter of apology either',
"jerk", she muttered.
'How do you apologize to someone you've liked loved for the past seven years. Do you kneel? Buy her flowers (in your case Zobo). Do you write cliché letters that may ease the hurt? I actually debated on which the then I just settled for a note. Just know, I wasn't always like this. I was brighter. When did died, I felt like my sun died with him. I guess I just forgot how to love. Until you happened. I remember meeting you the first time. Mom said I asked her if you were an angel. I yelled gross tho', she laughed. Her cheeks were coloured and hit from the intensity of the blush. She'd been smiling for minutes now.
'I guess I never really wanted to admit I was into you and when I realized I did and was ready to admit it, we'd always argue. Like for chrissakes we argued over everything. Even over Zobo Jesus!', she chuckled remembering the exact same day this has happened.
'I really enjoyed our arguments tho. They made me know a bit of you even more. The proud black woman, feminist, free thinker, music lover, Zobo Empress', that last one made her smile, she held her hair back and continued.
'Love does not come in the package we want. I roamed throughout my life not searching and I found you. When I kissed you it wasn't because I wanted to score a point or just wanted to flex or whatever. When I kissed you I felt like nothing could ever harm me. It felt supernatural. I was scared to love. When I kissed you, it was because I was scared no more. So I say... I love you', "I love you too Folarin", she said as she had a hand to her mouth also wiping the tears forming round her eyes. She turned and looked at where Fola was seated and saw him looking out the window. She watched him for a while, smiling. She then faced the note and continued.
'I'm sorry I lied. This is both a love and apology letter. I gave you my note. You can open it. Check it out.
Simi, I don't want to be just friends with you. I want you as everything lovers should be. You're my sun. Please don't ignore me. I promise to be a lesser jerk.Yours Jerkingly
The guy you left seated with a stranger.
Fola💙'Simi laughed at that last part. She wasn't sure she was still mad at him anymore. "How could anyone ever be mad at this", she thought. She opened the notepad and saw a couple of sketches and scribbles of places, cartoons, his dad... Her. He'd sketched her! Not once. Not twice. He'd wrote under one of them 'can't help. I'm obsessed'. She looked to where he sat. He was looking at her now. Smiling, he did too. She stood up and went to where he was seated and asked to sit next to him which she did.
She'd been seated next to him for an hour and half now without saying anything. They'd be at Benin in less than forty five minutes now. They both sat awaiting who'd make the first move. Who'd say the first word. Just as she was about to make the first move, Fola placed his hands above hers. Intertwined their fingers, raised it and kissed them. She placed her head on his shoulder and smiled which Fola did too after her noticed Tolani had been staring at them for a while now smiling annoyingly. Simi saw her too and chuckled.
"I'm sorry", Fola said
"You don't have to be", Simi assured.
"You haven't asked your fourth question yunno", Fola remembered.
"Oh yeahh", she said smiling this time as she hit her Jean jacket and noticed her airpods. "Look at this bloody invention", she joked.
"Thank God you hadn't found that earlier", he said, honestly imagining how terribly annoying their journey could have gone.
Simi turned them on and gave Fola one and laid on his shoulder again. She'd played one of her favorites, 'Ed Sheeran - One'.
"What would you do if we were more than friends", Simi asked.
"I'd never let you go", he reassured her as he kissed her hands again.
'And all my sense has come to light. While I'm stumbling home as drunk as I have ever been and I'll never leave again.. Cuz you're the only one. And all my friends have gone to find another place to let their heart collide, just promise me you'll always be a friend. Cuz you're the only one'. They both sat silent as the song played.
They couldn't stop staring at each other. They loved each other. "I want us to be not just friends. Not anymore. I love you Simi", Fola declared.
"I love you too... And we're sooo not friends", she said and kissed him, "Not anymore", she continued as Fola kissed her. He'd waited seven years for this. He was not going to let this moment slip away. Not now, not ever. He looked at her and smiled. Wizkid's 'Fool for you' had just shuffled in. He was a big fan.
"Pff", Simi said
"He's the greatest of all time", Fola stated, "Don't argue".
"There's Burna Boy...", she'd ranted on as Fola stared at her knowing he was in for a long ride as the song faded in the background.Message from Author.
