The sound of your ragged breathing tore through the deafening silence of the forest. Your lungs screaming at you every time you inhaled and made a sickly gargling sound each time you exhaled. You couldn't slow down. They were too close. The aesthetic thoughts you had previously about forests were wrong. It was dark. It was cold. You could barely see the ground. Rocks and pebbles implanted themselves in the soles of your feet, branches and logs swiftly shredded the skin of your legs as you ran.
Keep going. Push through it.
You were ready to collapse. Your head was foggy. Oxygen wasn't running through your body properly and you could feel it. Your arms felt both heavy and numb. Your head throbbed more furiously each time your feet would hit the ground creating a continuous ringing in your ears.
Just a little longer.
Your body was exhausted and was reaching its limits. Your pace slowed exponentially. air pushing through your windpipes felt like sandpaper being dragged along the inside of your throat.
Your pace continued to slow until you finally came to a stop, your body near collapsing on its self. Falling to your knees with your hands on the ground in front of you, you could hear nothing but your heartbeat raging in your ears, echoing through your skull. Everything hurt. The pain was spreading and connecting until you were no longer sure what it felt like to not be in pain. A sob escaped your lips. You wanted this to be over. Distant voices shouted to each other, you saw flashlights moving in your direction. Quickly you heaved yourself off the ground, sprinting in the opposite direction of your pursuers.
'Where? where? where? Your eyes searched frantically looking for the landmarks that had been drilled into your head.
'Look for the blue tape, turn left and keep moving until you see the harbor.'
'blue tape? Blue tape!' Your eyes locked on a strip of blue tape wrapped around a low hanging branch. Your heartbeat increased the smallest bit, and heat spread up to the tips of your ears. Hope. You quickly changed course, headed to the harbor.
Almost there.
"Target spotted! 10 o'clock" The voices of men shouting behind you sent a cold shiver down your spine.
'no, no, no....' Your heart dropped as they gained on you. Their heavy footsteps were amplified on the otherwise silent night. Your body instantly went into fight or flight, releasing the extra adrenaline you needed to put distance between you and them.
"Come on, (y/n), come on" You frantically chanted at yourself.
"go! grab her!"
No!
You pushed your legs way past their limit, prepared to handle the repercussions.
I can make it. Almost there.
You saw the opening. The boat dock, the open ocean. Your eyes lit up as you ran but before you could make it, you heard leaves rustling.
THUD.
A dark figure dropped from the trees landing right behind you. You instinctively jumped back, turning to look at it, crouched in an attacking position. It was a person, a man. He was lean and much taller than you. You knew him.
"Get to the dock." Was all he said before running in the direction of your search party.
You didn't waste any time. Tripping over your own feet, your body moved back into the direction of the dock.
Your feet hit the splintering wood, allowing you to make it to the edge before looking back. it was silent. Your heavy pants and the waves being the only thing you could hear in the immediate area. Turning back to the ocean you saw a large boat, it wasn't too far.
'Could I make it if I swam?' You thought to yourself, whipping your head back up when you heard someone on the dock.
It was the man from before. He walked up to you, picking you up gently in his arms.
"We're leaving now." His low, almost lazy voice mumbled. He tightened his grip on you before jumping and shooting the cloth around his neck out to the boat. He latched on the support rails, pulling you both over the water.
Landing as softly as he could, he placed you on the deck of the boat. "Thank you, Aizawa." You said looking up at the man who was kneeling beside you.
"No problem, kid."
You sat still, being unable to move since the adrenaline had finally worn off and everything hurt like hell. You closed your eyes breathing carefully through the pain, your mind wandered off to the thought of how peaceful death probably was. You wouldn't have to deal with all of this pain. You shifted slightly causing the multiple gashes on your body to bleed. Maybe death wasn't so bad. You thought, your mind slightly hazy.
A wind blew past making you shiver.
'That's right' the weather was keeping you somewhat intact with reality 'It's a cold night'.
You felt vibrations on the deck from where you were sitting, your heartbeat spiking. You looked up at Aizawa who only stared forward with a bored expression.
Your eyes carefully followed his line of sight realizing you were surrounded by a group of people. There was a really large man with blond hair, a woman with an impressive rack, a smaller, thinner blond man who looked like a bird, A man who looked like a cement brick, and a small mouse-bear looking thing.
The mouse thing spoke to you.
"Glad to finally meet you (y/n), We're here to help."
You once again looked at Aizawa, him being the only person you knew there. He gave you a slight nod, letting you know it was fine.
"Thanks." was the only thing you could utter, with the last of your energy leaving your body. you leaned on Aizawa, closing your eyes once again.
'I'm tired.' was your last thought before you passed out.
