Waking up to kiss you and nobody's there
The smell of your perfume still stuck in the air
It's hard
Yesterday I thought I saw your shadow running round
It's funny how things never change in this old town
So far from the starsThalia Pov.
I walked over to my apartment after my last shift, it was about 4 a.m. but I still felt restless.
I grabbed the keys from my back pocket and shoved them into the keyhole, with a quick twist the door unlocked.
I opened the door and a cold breeze fled the dark room. I pushed the light buttons and put the thermometer a few degrees higher and suddenly the room looked way cosier.
I put the television on and put it on Netflix and looked if my favourite show had released more episodes yet. The shows I watched were just the lame ones, NCIS, NCIS LA, Scorpion etc. But I liked them, and it made me laugh from time to time.
I felt a slight vibration under my blanket when I was halfway into an episode of Scorpion. I unlocked my phone and I was met with a message from my mom.
MooMoo: 'Dear, have you eaten yet? And how do you like college?'
You: 'Ah I have eaten! It's 4 o'clock here though, and I do have an assignment to do tomorrow 😊'
MooMoo: 'Do you want extra books to read, or some extra clothes? I saw a cute shop opened up this week around the corner of the street!!!'
You: 'No worries mom! I have everything I need! I get good marks and have a nice living space. Please take care of yourself and your plants 😉'
MooMoo: 'Will do! My plants have been thriving for some weeks now! I think I've finally gotten the hang of how to keep plants alive! I named all of them as well, they're now my babies and I love them all, well you're my favourite baby😊'
You: 'Haha thank you, mom, make sure you eat enough and don't catch a cold!'
You: 'Love you!'
MooMoo: 'Love you too!'
My mom doesn't know about the things I've done, she thinks I'm currently studying for my History degree in the U.S. I try to make sure she never finds out about it, my mom has always been supportive of me and my choices. However, I think she'll be heartbroken when she finds out what I did.
I just make sure she does what she loves, which are reading as my mom has at least 2 bookcases full of them stuck to each side of the room. And caring for her plants, a hobby she picked up a few months back.
Since my dad left she changed her whole appearance and character into the beautiful person she is now, wearing a messy bun to tame her dark brown hair, having her black-rimmed glasses on her head constantly. And eating only biological meat and harvesting fruits and vegetables in her garden.
If I ever told her about it, her heart would break. And I never want to see her hurt again, not after what my dad did. My mom never blamed him for it, saying she was a bad wife and understanding his choice to leave as she was only 17 and pregnant at the time.
My mom married my dad at 16, it was an arranged marriage and because she was not an adult yet, her parents raised her age to 18. My dad was 20, my mom never talked bad about him. Even though he was a bastard, my mom always spoke about him with sparkles in her eyes.
She told me he was a real Romeo and that he always took care of her, but at the moment when she told him she was pregnant. He said that he wasn't ready for a child yet and that he had to take care of the company.
The reason my mom was in an arranged marriage is that her parent's and his had made a pact that their companies would assemble and make them even stronger. Making them the most powerful company in the country.
After my dad decided he couldn't take it anymore, he took 2/3 of the company's money and disappeared. My mom started from scratch again and invested carefully, eventually, she's among the top 3 of the best companies.
She may be a powerful CEO, but she never uses it to her advantage, she donates regularly to good causes and helps the elderly and disabled people by making a special hotel for them where they can stay for a small price.
Just as I was lost in thought again another vibration was felt under my blanket. I was being called by an unknown number. I let it ring for a few times before I decided I wasn't in the mood for talking right now.
Ha, my mom would've picked it up and made small talk with anyone who would've been lucky enough to be at the other side of the line. She would talk to anyone, family, friends, strangers, it didn't matter who you were or what you have, as long you like to have a conversation.
Suddenly a second vibration was felt in my hand. I received a message, I looked carefully at the screen in front of me.
Unknown number: 'Thalia, It's your dad. I'm sorry, please call me back.'
