Wooyoung had been staring at Hyunjin cleaning glassware for about ten minutes straight with a bashful smile plastered on his face, eyes lost deep in thought.
It was a Wednesday night, so the lounge wasn't really busy. There was a small cluster of men discussing business in the corner, and the typical three or four customers perched at the bar having a drink by themselves.
Hyunjin had been absent minded and lost in his own world for more than a week. Wooyoung was sure he knew the reason and didn't want to ask, but quite frankly his extremely good mood was starting to get annoying.
"Earth to Hyunjin," Wooyoung said, waving his hands in front of his face.
Hyunjin lazily looked over to make eye contact, still smiling, "Oh, hey, what's up?"
The glass that he had been cleaning was making a squeaking noise from being wiped so much.
"I think you got that one. Any longer and you might wipe it from existence," Woo joked.
He stared down at the cup, realizing, and then placed it on the counter. "Sorry, I'm just thinking about Saturday," he admitted.
"What's Saturday?" Wooyoung asked.
Hyunjin's head tilted to the side in confusion, "The date.." he said slowly. The other's expression was questioning, looking at Woo as if he was the one whose mind was doing all the wandering.
"Ohhh, riiight."
Wooyoung had no idea what he was talking about.
With the way that Hyunjin was staring at him, he felt that maybe they had talked before when he wasn't listening so he tried to pretend that he did.
"So I'm thinking we could go to the park and ride bikes by the river. Maybe afterwards we can stop by my favorite cafe and relax a little before dinner." Hyunjin gave a short nod, looking as if he was mentally patting himself on the back.
"Well I don't know Yeosang but I am sure he's going to love it. Tell me how it goes," Woo offered.
Hyunjin's confused expression had come back in full force. His shoulders dropped and his gaze upon Wooyoung was searching, trying to tell if he was joking or not.
"Why would I need to tell you? You're going to be there," he stated seriously.
Now it was Wooyoung's turn to look confused, "Why would I be there?"
Yeosang had been the topic of conversation for sixty percent of their work shifts these days. The light in Hyunjin's eyes when he spoke of the other makes the stars look pale in comparison.
So why was he talking about going on a date with him?
Hyunjin was refreshing, like the sun's first kiss on dewy morning grass, but Wooyoung had already decided to cast his bewitching charms on someone else.
"Didn't you get a message? Yeo said...," he paused, biting at the metal ring on his lip and thinking.
"Mmm nope," Wooyoung shook his head. His phone had been dead since yesterday when his charger decided to run away. So if he sent him a message talking about it, he hadn't seen it.
A sudden spark of realization must of hit because he tried to backtrack, changing the subject, "Oh! Nevermind, I must be thinking of something else," he chuckled.
Wooyoung was suspicious but didn't try to press the situation. Whatever it was, he would find out soon enough. He figured if he didn't, then it wasn't important.
In an attempt to change the subject, Hyunjin placed a short cocktail glass in his hand and nodded his head towards a slightly older looking woman sitting at the bar alone. "She's drinking a Manhattan. Go make her another and try to smile this time," Hyunjin said.
Wooyoung pretended to be offended at the implied accusation that he wasn't charming but even he couldn't deny he had his ways. "How do you even know she wants one?" He asked, glancing at her almost empty glass.
"Because she's a regular and comes in here almost every other Wednesday and sits in that spot and orders the same drink three times. She's only had one so far," Hyunjin said matter-of-factly.
Wooyoung shrugged and walked towards the lady, pulling his lips back in a grin that kind of hurt his cheeks. When he reached her, he cleared his throat to signal he had come over and waited for her to lift her head.
She was delicately beautiful. Long eyelashes swept her cheeks and her straight bangs were shaken out of her eyes as she looked up at him. Time was kind to her as she was only growing more graceful with age.
Her cherry lipstick was pressed to the side of the glass and fading from her lips, making them a rose pink.
She returned the grin and brought the glass to her lips to finish it off and slid it to Wooyoung who placed it below the counter. He placed the new glass in front of her and began making another.
"Long night?" Wooyoung asked in a cliche attempt to break the awkward silence.
She chuckled, giving in to the cheesy line, "Isn't it always?"
He shrugged his shoulders in response, agreeing to the sentiment of her question, "Wanna talk about it?" He suggested.
She pursed her lips, thinking over his invitation. When he finished pouring her drink, he wiped off the counter and placed his elbows on top and his hands under his chin to signal he was listening.
She looked between him and the drink, grabbing the chilled glass and taking a sip. A nod of approval was given at the mixture and she placed it down, crossing her arms.
"Have you ever made a mistake? One that was originally a choice you thought was right to make, but ended up changing everything around you?" She asked.
Wooyoung thought hard before replying, "Not intentionally."
She accepted that with a hum and took another sip, "It happened a long time ago but sometimes I wonder what would change if I had chosen something else."
"Well.." Wooyoung started slowly, "If I was in that position, I would figure out how to make my decision the best for me now, because you can't change the past."
"You're definitely right about that." She agreed, then added, "I've never seen you in here before, did you just start working?"
He nodded and straightened himself for his introduction, "I'm Wooyoung, nice to meet you," he greeted.
"I'm Sung-Kyung," she returned, "You're a sweet boy."
Wooyoung gave a genuine smile at that because he had never heard those words directed towards him.
"Thank you, let me know if you need anything else," he said as he walked back to Hyunjin.
An unfamiliar heat had set in his chest at his conversation with the woman and he wondered if this is how it would feel to have conversations with his mother if she had stayed around.
He stopped the thoughts before they could intrude and focused back on Hyunjin who was now scrolling through different pictures of outfits on his phone, "Which one of these should I wear?" he asked.
Wooyoung rolled his eyes and groaned at the other, realizing he would never escape his obsessive infatuation.
