I run all around the apartment searching for Harry before finally finding him in the bedroom, in the midst of changing sheets. I rush over to him, wrapping my arms around his neck. He wraps his arms around my waist in response, an automatic gesture for him and me at this point.
"You might want to hold off on changing those sheets," I say. Harry looks at me confused, while I'm just smiling like a lunatic. I pull the note out of my robe pocket, Harry immediately noticing it. He looks between me and the paper, his eyes soft instead of frantic again.
"You read it?" Harry asks, his hands now resting on my hips. I'm trying to contain my tears of happiness, my eyes blinking back threatening waterworks. Harry doesn't seem afraid that I've read his letter, but instead he looks relieved.
"I read all of it," I begin to get down on my knees. Harry gives me a confused look, unsure of what I'm about to do. But I know exactly what I'm about to do, and how I'm going to do it. Harry already proposed and was shot down before he ever tried, and so now I'm going to get on my knees and beg for his love for eternity.
"Harry, for the time being I need you to just listen to me." Harry smiles and nods his head, not having any intention of speaking in this moment. I'm looking up at him, stray tears falling out here and there. I'm about to propose. I'm about to take a leap, something that I never would've done years ago.
"I love you, and I know that the last five years nearly killed us, but I just need you to know that I thought about you every single night. I didn't sleep for hours just wondering if you'd been okay. I know that you loved me throughout it all, and that must've been the most painful thing of all. I know that now I'm done searching and fucking things up on purpose to try and push you away. So I'm here, on my knees--your child inside of me--asking you to love me for the rest of your life. I only want to fight with you. I only want to love you. Family is only when I'm with you. Harry, will you please make an honest woman out of me and marry me already?"
I catch my breath for a moment, waiting--anticipating--Harry's answer. He walks over to the dresser for a moment, grabbing a small box and holding it in between his hands. Harry gets on his knees in front of me, his hands grabbing mine.
"I would've gladly married you five years ago, and so I'd be fucking stupid if I said no now. I love you." Harry opens the box, his mother's ring from the letter sitting beautifully on the velvet. It's gorgeous and it glimmers underneath the lights. I had assumed that Lily had been the proud owner of it, but from memory I know that Lily's ring is the complete opposite of this one in front of me.
"So, yes." Harry waits for my answer, the finger in between his thumb and pointer finger.
"Yes. A million times yes." He slips the ring onto my finger, the large diamond on the center reminding me of my mother's. The ring fits perfectly around my finger, part of me seeing it as a whole huge coincidence. This ring was always meant for me.
