Prologue
Gemma laid on the cold hardwood floor as her head throbbed painfully. The pain was so horrendous, she could feel it dominating her with every beat of her heart.
Surely, death would be less painful, Gemma thought.
She watched the pair of dark leather booths move closer to her. Each step of the booths echoed in like drums in her ears.
"Get off the floor," The deep authoritarian voice demanded. "This does not suit you."
Gemma remained unmoved.
"If you do not get up," The voice spoke again, "I will have no choice but to move you myself."
Gemma was glued to the floor with fear. She hugged her knees closer to her chest and buried her head so it rested on top of her knees.
The man sighed. He reached out with his large hands and grabbed Gemma's arms. Like a rag doll, he picked her up and placed her on the large wingback chair by the fireplace.
"Dear child," The man spoke as he stroked Gemma's wild hair. "You have no idea what you are capable of, do you?"
With tear-stained eyes and a broken heart, Gemma lifted her eyes to face her uncle.
Lafayette.
He was a tall aging man with snow white hair and hard chocolate eyes...dominance oozed from every inch of him.
"I can teach you to be more...so much more." Lafayette said. He used a wet rag to wipe the blood on Gemma's forehead. "You were born to bring the world to its knees."
Tears poured out of Gemma's eyes. If she hadn't lost her voice earlier from screaming then she would have surely lost it now.
But all that escaped her chapped lips were whimpers of pain and fear.
Lafayette's eyes hardened at the sight of her tears, a look of disgust flashed across those chocolate eyes.
"You are just like your father...weak," He hissed. "If I had raised you, you would be unstoppable."
"I want to go home," Gemma choked out. Her throat burned with each word.
Lafayette crooked his head slightly to one side, "You are home."
Are you excited for this new journey?
