19.Chapter 19

Everybody’s asking what I’m thinking of you

                Gina's POV
  I waited anxiously outside the Hokage's office, pacing back and fourth. Last night we had gotten back from a mission to rescue Gaara's student Matsuri from the Four Celestials, one of the worst missions I've ever been on. Since I am Gaara's protector and friend, I can't let Gaara get hurt or release Shukaku or bad things will happen, I don't think Shikamaru understood this.
            *Flashback*
  "Gina no! I forbid you to go help him!"Shikamaru shouted to me, connecting his shadow with mine.
  I felt as if every bone in my body was being broken and every organ was being ripped out, one by one. In no way was I going to be able to hold out, already feeling as if I was dying. As a kunochi, I'm not supposed to let my feelings get in the way of a mission. I could be stripped of my chunin label or even my headband all together, but this was more then just my feelings toward Gaara. He could do this on his own but isn't that why I was here? So that he didn't have to do this on his own.
  Something rumbled in my stomach, through my chest, throat and out my mouth, creating a loud inhuman roar. I was getting mad at Shikamaru, keeping me here when Gaara needed help.
  "Fuck you."I spat at him."You aren't my leader! Right now I'm a member of Team Baki! I don't take orders from you!"
  Some how I got an enormous amount of power and freed myself from the shadow possession justu and sprinted over to Gaara. I saw him in his half Shukaku, half Gaara form, mind not quite sure what to do but body reacting as if I had been waiting for this situation my whole life. When I reached him, I grabbed his face, looking directly into his eyes.
  "Gaara."I whispered and he growled in response."Gaara, I know you're in there. You can do this Gaara. I believe in you."I watched his face soften and slowly the part that was Shukaku faded away.
  My hands retracted from his face and started forming what looked like a little chakra ball. It gradually grew bigger until I had none left in my own body. It somehow got into Gaara's chakra system, and then the whole word faded into black.
                *End Of Flashback*
  Shikamaru and I haven't talked since I yelled at him. It made me a little sad since we've been best friends since the academy but it's not like he could just boss me around. He wasn't in charge of me.
  "Gina will you please stop with the pacing, you're driving me nuts."Kankuro said, completely annoyed. I muttered an apology and stood next to the door. I started to taste iron on my bottom lip meaning it was bleeding.
  The man Gaara was first fighting with had called me his girlfriend, which is what everyone seems to think I am. Was I his...girlfriend? What were we anyways? Ino had asked if I liked him, and of course I said yes but what exactly were we? Sometimes I just wanna jump around and squeal and tell Temari every detail when something happens. I almost told her about a small incident the night before meeting Matsuri where we got a little intimate on the couch after everyone had fallen alseep.
  The door swung open, revealing a very happy Shizune. We all entered, seeing all of the sensei's facing us. Tsunade as usual sat in her chair, hands clasped together, elbows on the desk.
  "Shikamaru, the mission was a success, well done."She said and then her eyes slid to me."Gina Uchiha, you went against orders and helped out Gaara, not once, not twice, but consistently. Why?"She asked.
  "Because he's my friend. Yes, you aren't supposed to let feelings get in the way of your mission because that makes you scum. However, two great ninja have told me that someone who abandons they're friends are worse then scum."I explained to her. A very big smile appeared on her face.
  "Well then, with that statement, I hereby appoint you to the level of Jounin."My heart practically jumped out of my chest.
  Jounin? I'm a jounin? Who recommended me? But hasn't it only even been four months since I've made chunin? Awesome!
  "W-what? Really?"Lady Sensei walked to me and handed me a neatly stacked pile of clothes.
  "I'm so proud of you."She told me. I looked at all the other sensei's faces, smiles on them as well, and a special thumbs up from Guy Sensei.
  "I also have a question for you Gina."Lady Tsunade said, making me nervous."How would you like to become a citizen of the Sand?"
  Oh no. Is she asking me to choose between villages?
  "What do you mean?"I asked her even though her question was very clear.
  "Well, some of the Jounin in the Sand have expressed great interest in you. They believe you are a great ninja and have sent in a letter stating that they would like for you to become a citizen, however if you decide to decline their offer, you can still continue the arrangement we have set up."She explained to me.
  I felt as if everyone in the room awaited for my answer in suspense. This was too overwhelming. My heart started to race and my palms felt damp. I grabbed Lady Sensei by her wrist and dashed out of the room with her.
                Gaara's POV
  She ran. She ran out of the room when Lady Tsunade asked her is she'd like to become a Sand Citizen and dragged her sensei with her. She probably needed advice on what to do at this point. It was a question that should've been asked in private. I felt like Lady Tsunade had purposely asked her that here so she'd feel pressured almost. It'd be easier to reject three people then seven.
  Despite that, I couldn't help but feel genuinely happy for her that she'd been made a Jounin. Gina deserved it. She had worked her ass off in training and could now beat both Kankuro and Temari, simultaneously. It was incredible. Now all she has to do is beat me, but then again she can't fight me or she'll feel pain. Oh well, she was still an amazing shinobi.
  After about ten minutes she returned with her sensei.
  "Lady Tsunade, will all do respect my I decline the offer."I felt myself growing very bitter and sour inside, like she had personally rejected me. I was her...boyfriend...wasn't I? That man Suiko had called her my girlfriend when she saved me.
  Could you even say we had a relationship? That we were boyfriend and girlfriend?
  "And why would that be?"Tsunade asked.
  "Well, I am a citizen of the Leaf. Born and raised. It doesn't feel right to switch Lands, at least now now."She said the last of her sentence so quietly, I could barely hear her.
  Tsunade flashed a rare smile."Alright then, I can't say I'm not pleased to hear that. Well, then this seems to be in order, I'll see you next month, for the chunin exams."
  "Come let's get you home so we can see you in your new outfit."Temari said eagerly when we left.
  Matsuri was sitting on the couch, sipping a glass of water and watching a t.v show that Kankuro and Gina watched together all the time.
  Did she really watch this? It can get very intimate at times.
  "Oh my gosh, Laced Tears! What did I miss?"Kankuro asked, hopping next to her on the couch.
  "Aito and Haruka got married, but Aito got Naoko pregnant."Matsuri explained.
  Gina came running out in her new Jounin outfit (picture), not bothering to ask how she look."Did you just say Aito got Naoko pregnant? Oh my gosh, he's such a man whore."She sat down next to Matsuri and never tore her eyes off the t.v.
  "Well Gina you look great."Temari said when Gina sat down.
  "Oh oh, Ren went to jail!"Matsuri said, earning gasps from Kankuro and Gina."Yep, she tried to frame Haruka because she's in love with Aito."
  "He really is a man whore."Kankuro agreed."Can we wait for this to finish before we go?"
  And of course, three ruling out two, we waited for their stupid show to finish.
