Fengjiu woke up at 6 am. Her thoughts replayed her activities from the previous night. Over and over she felt flashes of heat and blushed when she thought about Donghua's kisses and touch. As she dressed herself, she remembered their conversation. It took a lot of nerve to come to her, and say the things he did. Fengjiu knew Donghua was a shameless person, but his efforts to explain himself revealed a humility seldom seen. He would never go to such lengths for anyone. This fact was the most important thing that made her believe the sincerity of his words. She was moved when he showed her the tassel he made from her tail. She had no idea that he'd kept it with him all this time.
Fengjiu still had the arrow and bell he gave her three years ago from their Trial. In her mind, she was comforted by his efforts to show her that she was in his heart and he remembered all she did for him. However, she wondered what other motives drove him to show up. Perhaps he meant to tell her more , she posited. She couldn't wait to complete her itinerary, so she could ask him. In her heart, Fengjiu knew Donghua wouldn't come to see her without purpose or for games. She vowed to get to the bottom of it, and no matter what, she was determined to get through it unscathed. However, Fengjiu thought it best to keep everything to herself until she gathered the facts.
The Den was quite drafty as the morning breeze blew in. Migu was still sleeping, apparently still worn out from last night's festivities, she thought. Fengjiu lit the stove and made breakfast and tea. After breakfast, Fengjiu loved to walk down to the dock. She loved to sip her tea and look out over the water. She did her best thinking during this time. Today she had to meet with village representatives for an update on the latest efforts to boost crop sales and growth. Last year the water distribution system was modernized and new crops were planted six months ago. Three months ago, the storehouses she commissioned were completed. She hoped the prognosis was good. Fengjiu also planned to improve transportation, and met with engineers to design and build new ferries and barges. Qing Qiu had many tourist attractions and state parks, and Fengjiu thought it'd be a good way to create work opportunities for her citizens, and increase revenue. She hoped they would be ready by the end of the year. If everything went as planned, the entire project would be an economic boon for her subjects and a win for Qing Qiu. She had so many ideas, but she knew real progress was slow, but would last if done correctly.
She stood up to walk back to the Den, she saw the Dong Hua standing at the entrance to the Den. Apparently, he was an early riser, she thought. She did a double take, she couldn't believe she would see him so soon. "Are you not tired this morning?", she asked, as she reached the entrance. Dong Hua smiled and said, "I have a lot to do today, and wanted to meet with you later this evening, after you've fulfilled your obligations. What time would be best?" " I will be free after 5pm. Where shall we meet ?",she asked. "I will go to the shabby hut, unless you prefer to meet in your bedroom", he said with a raised brow. Fengjiu's face immediately turned crimson. "No, no, we can meet at the shabby hut. Why didn't you send Si Ming to deliver this message?", she asked. "I wanted to ask you in person. The things we have to discuss are private. I will be waiting for you. For now, I have to go," he said and left. "Here I go again", Fengjiu thought to herself. She went inside, grabbed her materials and headed to her first appointment.
Dong Hua wasn't looking forward to this morning's assembly. Lately, the morning meetings consisted of Tiajun talking, mostly to hear himself talk. Since Ye Hua's resurrection and subsequent return, it could be said that Tiajun was basically a lame duck. In addition to his preparations for his upcoming wedding to Bai Qian, Ye Hua took on more responsibilities and did preparatory work, to facilitate his ascension to the throne as the new Emperor of Heaven. In truth, Donghua looked forward to working with Ye Hua. because he was more practical in his approach to problem solving, and respected his ability to eliminate unnecessary steps. Nevertheless, Donghua was there this morning, to offer his counsel and to make further recommendations to Ye Hua, if necessary.
As Don Hua was leaving the imperial Palace, Si Ming was waiting for him in the vestibule. "Greetings Dijun, it looks like I came at the right time. I have the information you requested. ,Si Ming said as he looked down. "Proceed," Dong Hua replied. Si Ming cleared his throat and said, "I reviewed the books from your Trial with Queen Fengjiu, and everything appears in order, but the accounts for your earlier activities in the Mortal world and life are blank pages. I also checked Fengjiu's records, and her story also aligns with yours, written in confirmation of the accounts of your time spent together in the Mortal world.
During the Trial, I remember writing the scripts for your Trial, only to find that they were overwritten, as if someone else had taken control of the book. That's when I checked the ancient records to see if there was anything that would provide a clue, but the records only say the you were in Mesopotamia and Thebes for cultivation and training. Did anything unusual occur during your time of study and cultivation during that period? If so, what was it?"
Dong Hua paused, "The only thing that was odd, was that I was the only one that didn't get to choose my destination." Si Ming said, "Who else was present when you recieved your assignment? Maybe they can offer some information that will be useful in solving this matter." Don Hua thought hard and said, "Bai Zhi and Zhe Yan were there. Si Ming, ask Zhe Yan and Bai Zhi to come to Tai Chen Palace in an hour."
"May the Heavens and Destiny be on her side this time", Si Ming said to himself.
