The next day, I got into Soren's car and the two of us drove to the cemetery for my Dad's funeral.
The cemetery was near the church and wasn't very big. I noticed the clouds overhead and wondered if Apollo had allowed the clouds to block out his sun out of respect for me and my Dad.
We got out of the car and saw that a group of people had gathered around an open grave. Soren looked at me and noticed the look of hesitation on my face.
"We don't have to do this," he told me, "Not if you don't want to. We can get back in the car and go back to the lake house. You just need to tell me."
"No, I'm okay," I assured him, "Let's do this."
We approached the group of people and I saw them all turn to look at me with sad eyes.
I stood next to my Aunt. She looked at me with sympathy.
"My brother was a good man," my Aunt said as she addressed the group, "He was a good Dad, he cared about everyone around him, he worked hard. He raised a daughter after his lover left him. He may not have been famous, but he was very important to all of us. I just hope that he's at peace now."
We all placed flowers on my Dad's coffin and watched as it was lowered into the grave. The grave was filled in and the mourners dispersed. Soren and I stayed. I wanted to break down and cry, but I wasn't sure if I could do that in front of Soren.
"Rose?" I heard a familiar voice ask. I turned and found my Aunt Jane standing there.
"Hi Auntie," I greeted her.
"What happened to you?" she asked, "You look so different."
My eyes widened. I guess the changes in my physical appearance had completely slipped my mind. I took a deep breath. How was I going to explain this? My appearance had changed a lot thanks to the divine power flowing through my veins. But I didn't think that telling her the truth would be the best course of action. If she was asking me what happened to me, I seriously doubted that she knew about my Mom being the Goddess of Witchcraft, Magic, Crossroads, and Necromancy.
Lie. I'd have to lie to my Aunt. It wasn't that I wanted to lie to her. It was just that I knew that telling her the truth would mean revealing that the Greek myths were real. I wasn't sure if my Aunt would be able to handle that. So I figured that she'd be better off not knowing the whole story.
"Something happened," I replied.
"What's wrong?" she asked.
"I was doing some digging into my Mom's past and got caught up in her world. Someone targeted me, so I changed my appearance to stay safe."
"And who is this?" she asked, gesturing to Soren.
"His name is Soren," I stated.
I didn't need to explain everything.
"Where have you been these past few days?" she asked, "You weren't at the house when I went there."
"I've been staying with Clary," I replied.
"Clary?" my Aunt asked, not recognizing the name.
