It had been hours now and we still hadn't managed to find a spell to incapacitate Eris. The others still hadn't come back yet, so Soren and I were still alone in the lake house. Currently, we were curled up on the couch together, just sitting in silence.
I turned to look at Soren and noticed how dark his eyes were getting and I felt a sudden need to get closer to him physically. Why? What was that?
"Is something wrong?" I asked.
"I don't know," he admitted.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"My pain is at its peak and my instincts are driving me to indulge in my desires to ease it," Soren replied, "You're not exactly helping either. Because we're soulmates, your body reacts to being close to mine and I just can't seem to keep my hands off of you. Being around you drives me crazy, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The problem is that I can't indulge my desires."
"Why?" I asked, "You think I don't want you? Because I do."
"It's not that," he told me, "It's the fact that if we go there then the barrier that hides my pain will fall and I'll be completely exposed. I don't know if you're ready for that and I don't want to put that on you."
"Soren," I whispered. He tried to move away from me, but I grabbed his shoulders and stopped him. His eyes darkened again. "It's not just about me," I told him, "I'm ready. The question is, are you?"
"Rose, my brothers and spent centuries looking for our soulmates and we never found them," Soren told me, "So we convinced ourselves that they didn't exist. But when Clary found Arrow, it gave the rest of us hope. I've waited centuries, Rose. My pain is getting worse. I don't want to wait any more. I want your soul to heal mine. I think I'm ready. Just promise me one thing."
"Anything," I told him.
"Promise me that you won't run after you see it all," he told me.
"Soren, I choose you and I understand that doing so means that I'll have to deal with your baggage," I told him firmly, trying to make sure he understood that I wasn't going anywhere, "I know what I'm signing up for. I can handle your pain. I'm ready."
"Are you sure?" he asked.
"Yes," I replied, "I choose you. I want you, Soren."
And then he pulled me on to his lap, so that my legs were straddling his waist, and placed his lips on mine. My hands tangled themselves in his hair, while his arms wrapped around my waist and back, trying to keep me as close to his body as possible.
