x. A Hero's End

' She will rise. With a spine of steel, and a roar like thunder. She will rise. '

"Dad!" Carter shouted desperately as she attempted to push herself up, shouting at the pain it caused as her hand shot to her thigh where a large piece of rubble was covering almost the entirety of her lower body "Fuck!"

"Carter!" Scott shouted as he ran over to the girl and quickly began removing the pieces.

"May day, may day does anybody copy?" Rhody's voice crackled through Carter's coms as they were nearly broken "We're on the lower level and it's flooding!"

"What? What!" Scott's eyes widened as he began to rip the pieces off of Carter quicker, the pair eventually freeing Carter as she stood up on one leg, the other bleeding profuosly and spiking pain everytime she tried to walk.

"Let's go." Carter told him as his head snapped back to her.

"You can't even walk." He reminded her just as her wings, covered in dirt and debris snapped out completely unscaved from behind her back.

"But I can sure as hell fly." She reminded him with a small smirk.

"We are drowning! Does anybody copy!? May day!" Rhody's voice came through again as Carter's eyes widened in alarm.

"We're here! Rhodey!" Carter desperately shouted before realising he couldn't hear her and beginning to take flight "Come on!" she shouted as she offered Scott her hand and pulled him up with her, the man himself quickly transforming to his ant size self again to make the move quicker.

Making it to the lower level, Carter quickly sent Scott ahead above the narrow waters as she went under, quickly swimming and using her wings to propel her faster once she could see Rhodey, Rocket and Bruce just ahead of her.

Emerging in the waters between them Carter gasped for air before looking at them all as Scott appeared beside them.

"Better hold your breath boys." Carter breathed heavily as Rocket Scampered onto her shoulders and gripped them tightly between her wings "You got the big guy?" Carter grinned at Scott causing him to chuckle.

"You haven't heard? Ants can hold up to 50 times their own body weight. This ones a piece of cake." Scott jested as Carter grabbed ahold oh Rhodey.

"Hold on tight." Carter gasped for her final breath as the others did the same before quickly submerging herself again and moving as fast as she could through the water.

Beginning to lose her breath, Carter frantically looked around at the others to see them in the same predicament as she tried to go faster. Almost screaming as she forced herself to go on and her lungs began to beg for air.

Looking back at Scott Carter began to try and signal with her eyes as she mimed 'big' with her hands. 

The group froze for a moment though when they heard a voice, one that had been missing from their lives for over five years now "Hey Cap can you read me? Cap it's Sam, you hearing me?" Carter's eyes widened once more as they all shared a look "On your left."

All grabbing ahold of Scott's hand at once, Carter momentarily retracted her wings as not to get them caught before nodding at him to do it.

A sudden darkness took over Carter as she was taken into Scott's hand alongside the others. Hearing the breaking of the remainders of the building, Carter grinned as she was able to breathe again when Scott opened his hand and freed them all.
