v. The Snap

' She's everything even when she's treated like nothing. '

Sitting on the log behind Vision, keeping watch for any enemies, Carter checked over her leg quickly as she healed, almost fully there by the time someone entered their general vicinity.

That someone being Wanda "Are you okay?" She quickly checked on Vision before glancing at Carter and giving her a nod before Vision groaned in pain "What? What is it?" 

"He's here." Vision warned as Carter shot to her feet and looked around, her wings snapped out in alarm as she held two knives in her hands.

"Everyone on my position, we have incoming." Steve warned through the coms where he had travelled slightly away from Vision and Carter to regroup the team.

Nodding at Wanda and Vision as she joined the others, landing beside Pietro and Bruce, Carter frowned at the sight of a portal opening and a giant purple thumb walking through.

"Cap, that's him." Bruce confirmed.

"He's a fucking grape!" Carter incredulously shouted causing Pietro to push her.

"Eyes up." Steve warned them "Be sharp."

As everyone approached him, he used the already collected gems to avoid attack, solidifying Bruce in the wall and throwing Steve, Pietro and T'challa to the ground before pulling Sam and Carter from the air in slow motion.

Watching helplessly, almost feeling stuck where she was as she watched Wanda begin to destroy the stone as it stayed imbedded in Visions head.

Glancing around her as Thanos tossed Rhodey across the lot and blast Bucky with a purple mist, Carter called out to the, only to go unheard as Okoye, Groot and Natasha met similar fates.

Standing with difficulty, Carter wrapped her legs around Thanos's neck as Steve grabbed the gauntlet, the both of them eventually failing as they screamed out when Thanos punched Steve and swiftly knocked Carter off with a backwards headbutt.

Landing with a lack of grace on her back, Carter stared helplessly as Wanda destroyed the stone and killed Vision.

"I understand my child." Thanos nodded as he approached Wanda "Better than anyone." He stated.

"You could never." Wanda sneakily replied as she stared defiantly up at the mad titan.

Reaching down and setting his hand on Wanda's bowed head, Thanos spoke again "Today, I lost more than you can know. But now is not time to mourne, now is not time at all." He ominously muttered before walking over to Visions lifeless body before clenching his fist and creating a green glow that seemingly regenerated the half man half AI.

That was when Carter understood, this must have been the time stone. They were never going to win, Thanos had the upper hand no matter what as he reversed Vision's life by mere minutes in order to restore the mind stone.

"No!"  Wanda shouted as Thanos lifted Vision by his throat, ultimately being thrown back by a ragdoll before the titan God lifted his oversized hand to Vision's stone, ignoring the beings grunts and whispers as he tore it from his head and let the now grey body drop.

Staring in horror, unable to move, Carter witnessed as Thanos lifted the last of the six infinity stones to his golden gauntlet and put it in its place.

Within seconds there was an electrified glowing as Thanos finally felt the full force of all that power.

Struggling to her feet, Carter grasped the tree beside her in pain before launching herself up onto the distracted beings shoulders and holding him momentarily in place as Thor came thundering down with his new weapon Stormbreaker and thrust it through Thanos's chest, penetrating his armour and embedding itself within his chest.

Dropping down from his back and joining Thor ahead of Thanos, Carter was ready to watch the light leave this wretched mans eyes as he fell to one knee.

Thor, gripping Thanos's neck in one hand and the blunt end of Stormbreaker in the other, glared at the Man who had singlehandedly destroyed his life in a matter of minutes.

"I told you, you'd die for that." Thor grunted before pushing stormbreaker further into Thanos's chest, intent on inflicting him harm in his last few moments.

Screaming, Thanos stared into Thor's eyes before breathily muttering "You should've gone for the head." 

With that, he snapped his fingers as Carter and Thor simultaneously screamed "No!" Carter being thrown back by the tremendous blast that Thanos created to remove her from the scene.

Rolling painfully to a stop, Carter groaned, laying face down on her stomach as she attempted to push herself up, groaning painfully as she looked up.

"What did you do!? What did you do!?" Thor demanded before Thanos created himself a portal and disappeared through it, leaving stormbreaker to thud to the ground in front of Thor.

Groaning as Steve reappeared from where he'd been tossed, Carter grunted as he pulled her up to her feet painfully.

"Where'd he go?" Steve asked Thor as he supported the majority of Carter's weight "Thor, where'd he go?" He repeated more desperately.

"Steve?" Bucky suddenly interupted as Carter turned to look at the other super soldier, eyes widening as she watched him turn to dust before her very eyes as Steve rushed over to where his ashes now lay.

"Holy shit." Carter muttered in utter shock as she rapidly glanced around for everyone else "Pietro? Pietro!" She shouted in fear before taking off as fast as her battered body would let her "Pietro!" Cafter screamed as she saw Wanda turn to dust, dread filling her as her eyes welled up with tears.

Rounding the corner, Carter let out a sob as she saw Pietro fall to his knees, his legs disintegrating faster than she could fathom.

"Princezná?" He questioned in fear before reaching out a withering hand to Carter as she lunged for him, missing my a millimetre as Pietro was reduced to nothing but ashes.

"No!" Carter screamed in agony as she scrambled back slightly, staring at where the love of her life had just been moments ago, praying that he would come back. 

After a few minutes, Carter pulled herself away from the scene of horror as Bruce passed in the hulkbuster, helping her up carefully before they joined the rest of the remaining team.

"What is this, what the hell is happening?" Rhodey demanded to know as Carter sat on the floor with her head resting on her fisted hands and her elbows on her risen knees.

Nobody answered for a long time before Steve eventually muttered a short "Oh God." 

"Is this it?" Carter asked.

A month, it took a whole month for something positive to finally come from the whole ordeal. But it was still more than anyone had expected.

Having been at the Avengers compound with Rhodes and Pepper since everything went down, Carter could usually be found outside, sitting by herself in the field as she still struggled to wrap her head around everything that was going on.

Just days ago, Carol Danvers, aka, Captain Marvel had shown up as per Nick Fury's last emergency request.

Carter wasn't sure what the team had asked of her, but she knew that once they began talking about her Dad that she had to get out of there.

At the sound of the woman returning, Carter raised herself up from the steps where she'd been sat and joined the others as they raced out to meet the woman as she landed with a ship that Carter did not recognise as human.

Feeling Pepper wrap her hand around hers, Carter squeezed back in reply, careful not to hurt the woman she'd come to view as a mother over the years as they both hoped beyond belief that Tony was on board.

Seeing him and some blue chick coming down the ramp, Carter choked on air as  Steve ran ahead of the two to greet him before they could get there.

"Is um -" They heard Tony begin before the two woman embraced him together, feeling him deflate in relief as he held them both as tight as possible in his weakened form "It's okay." He nodded before individually hugging them both before he brought them in closer again, wishing he'd never have to let go.
