' She had to be odd to be number one. '

Grunting as she landed back on the platform, Carter sighed in relief as the suit around her released and she was finally able to let her wings out.

"Never doing that again." Carter grinned as she flexed her wings and let them flutter around her causing Thor and Rocket to chuckle.

"Did we get 'em all?" Bruce checked as he looked around at everyone, Carter's eyes meeting her Dad's with a smile on both their faces.

"Are you telling me this actually worked?" Rhodey huffed in disbelief as he held up the orb containing the soul stone.

Hearing a thump Carter turned as Clint landed on his knees, her eyes scanning quickly around them as she saw no sign of Natasha.

"Clint?" Carter stared at him in horror.

"Clint where's Nat?" Bruce asked the unanswered question.

The silence that followed gave Carter all the answers she needed as a sob broke free from her, bringing the young woman to tears as she began to cry as everyone else bowed their heads in silence, Carter joining them as tears rolled down her cheeks and dropped onto the platform below as Bruce fell to his knees.

His and Natasha's story would never get a happy ending.

Standing out on the deck over the water, Carter stared off at the rippling motions that happened every time a duck would float by or a fish would come up for food.

"Do we know if she had family?" Tony asked Steve from behind her.

"Yeah. Us." Steve nodded as Carter wrapped her arms tighter around her middle, unable to fathom what had just happened.

"What?" Thor huffed.

"Huh?" Tony mumbled back as he straightened up.

"We could do what -

"Just asking a normal question." Tony defended himself.

"Your acting like she's dead, why are we acting like she's dead when we have the stones right? As long as we have the stones Cap, we can bring her back." Thor ground out in desperation "Isn't that right, so stop this shit. We are the Avengers, get it together."

"We can't get her back." Clint deadpanned from where he was sat, watching what Carter was from where he was seated.

"W-W-What?" Thor demanded.

"It can't be undone. It can't." Clint looked Thor in the eye as Carter took a deep breath, she couldn't say she hadn't thought the same thing. Just going back and bringing Nat home, but she knew it wouldn't work. Not like that.

"Look I'm sorry. No, no offence but your a very earthly being, okay. We're talking about space magic, and can't seems very difinitive don't you think?" Thor huffed in annoyance at Clint's determination.

"Yeah look, I know that I'm way outside of my pig right here." Clint stood "But she's still out there is she?"

"No that's my point." Thor shook his head.

"It can't. Be undone." Clint dug in his words as he faught back tears "Or that's at least what the red floating guy had to say. Maybe you wanna go talk to him! Okay! Go grab yoour hammer and you go fly and you talk to him!" He shouted as Thor finally backed down, looking at the ground below him as reality set in "It was supposed to be me. She sacrifised her life for that goddamn stone, she put her life on it." Clint sniffed as Carter let the tears run down her face once more, burrying her face in the jacket of Natasha's she had found and put on over her jumper.
