Friday

Several days had passed since my audition and I still hadn't heard a word back. Tonight was the first night Robert and Lyia wanted a performance. I was starting to get nervous that they weren't going to give me time to prepare.

I was woken up by the sound of my phone ringing. The number on the screen wasn't one I recognized but I answered it anyways, trying my best to sound as awake as possible.

"Hello?"

"Hi Sakaya. It's Lyia."

"Oh hi, good morning." I said, suddenly feeling more awake than I had. Tingles of nerves ran through my body.

"Good morning, sorry I didn't call sooner but I just wanted to let you know that we found someone else to do the Friday evening shows." I felt my stomach drop. I know that I did a good job on my audition, I didn't even think anybody else was interested. "I liked your audition the best but, I felt like giving this to someone else would be more beneficial to them. You're welcome to come by tonight, you might be able to work something out with them."

I sighed quietly.

"Okay, what time?"

"7:30"

We finished up the call and I fell back onto the bed.

Now that step one backfired I was fucked. I didn't have a step one plan b.

That evening Kelly and Cassy got ready with me for the show.

"I wanna know who she thought would be better than you." Kelly said angrily. Her dark brown hair in braids and her green eyes dark with anger.

"If it's those twins I swear I'll lose my shit." Cassy added.

"Guys, it'll be fine. She said I might be able to work something out with them." I interjected, trying to stay positive.

"You can be hopeful, we're gonna be angry." Cassy laughed as she sprayed hair spray all over her hair.

I looked at myself in the mirror, I was happy with how I looked, my hair was a little messy but I shrugged. We're just going to a restaurant.

Once everyone was ready to go we all packed into Kelly's car and headed down the street.

We found a parking spot out front, which was a little surprising considering it was 7:15. Friday evenings here are usually busy from what I've seen.

We made our way in and waited to be seated. Our waitress sat us at a table in the middle of the room. She took our orders for drinks and headed off to get them.

While the other two talked, I checked out the set up they had going on. There was a chair, microphone, and two amps. It was pretty basic.

The waitress returned with our drinks and I took a sip of my lemonade before giving her more order for food.

I joined the girls in a conversation, losing track of time for a few minutes, when I looked at the time I noticed it was five minutes till the start of the show and no sight of the performer anywhere.

"They really picked them good didn't they?" Cassy stated.

"You would've been set up by now for sure." Kelly added.

I nodded.

"Maybe they won't show up and I'll be able to do it."

"It's looking that way."

We were interrupted by our waitress bringing us our food.

She sat down two salads in front of Kelly and Cassy, and a grilled cheese in front of me. We thanked her and started on our food. I was about to say something when I heard a voice.
