Klaus looked at the book and thought of how much he had desired it for many years of his life. Not only him, but also his friends from the Basnet clan, who had deviated from the ways of honorable magic in their thirst for power. He raised the book and laughed. Bolts lit up the sky, announcing a great storm. He felt he was the most powerful of the warlocks. He thought nobody could hold him back.

Juan, thrown at his feet, lamented the way things had turned out to be. However, at the same time, he was sure that it was a necessary evil that would guarantee his survival.

"Now the book is mine, like I have always dreamed of. I shall be immortal and, soon, the one and only wizard alive on the Earth's surface. Having the power of magic under my command, I shall rule the world!"

"Why did you want the book so badly, Klaus?" Juan asked, trying to attract his nemesis' attention. "The best thing in life is to share... Although you have been blinded by the greediness that has you heart captive, in the future you'll realize that even if you possess all the material things in the world, there is no happiness if you don't have somebody to love."

"Shut up, you stupid mage! I would never want to share with anybody what I have fought so much to get. My only friend is Fratello, and the only reason for that is because he is a part of me. I despise those that need family or friends. I can have any woman that I want. Now more than ever, since I'll become immortal! It's time for you to show me where the child is, old man. Don't think that you can fool me. Where is he?"

Klaus lifted Juan's body ten feet up from the ground with his left hand, and kept him in the air. Then, with his right hand, he made the wizard drop the staff and took the magical device for himself.

"I want to destroy you so much!"

"But not for now... You will need me, warlock. Even though you are in the possession of the book, you need a wizard as powerful as I to teach you the spells that it contains. I know that within your soul you seek power; I am the only one with the skills to help you achieve your goal."

"I'll think about that... But I don't want more excuses. Show me the child, you dirty liar. I know that he is alive."

Juan denied with his head.

"You are mistaken! He got sick, and I could not look after him properly. I tried to find a woman or a witch in the forest that could take care of the little one. But before I could, the child perished in my arms. I can prove it to you. I have buried him near to a great oak, in the middle of the Forest."

"Take me there. I want to see him with my own eyes."

The mage knew that the baby he had buried was a girl. He prayed that the warlock would not want to dig her up, but just feel her presence. Otherwise, Juan would be in great trouble.

The old man conjured up a portal which led them all, including the creature, to the place where the tiny body was. The beaten soil was an indication that something had been buried there a short time ago.

"Fratello, use your power to sense if there is a child's body underneath the soil."

The creature morphed into Klaus and put his hand into the ground. He sunk his arms into the mud until he could touch the baby's body. The replicant nodded to Klaus.

Juan sighed in relief.

"I have to believe in what you're saying. Fratello's perception is better that any human's. Since Agathor's son is dead, there is one less wizard for me to eliminate in this world. Now that I own the book, you will be my slave until I have no more use for you, old mage. Then you may visit your family as spirit. Keep in mind that I won't allow you a nice treatment. You'll be a prisoner at the dungeons on my castle in Florence, Tuscany."

"I shall serve you, Klaus. You need not to put me behind bars. I've had enough incarceration for a life."

"Considering that I was planning to kill you, I am being more that benevolent. Open up the portal and take us to my castle."

"I need you to think about it now, as well as the region it is located, so that I'll be able to create the transference path."

Klaus imagined himself inside his castle. Juan opened a portal and they all passed through it. The Doppelgänger went right behind the warlock, who had the crow on his shoulder. The wolf and owl stayed behind, lost, not knowing how to find their friend. From above, the eagle observed the movement in the Dark Forest, and realized that the mage was in danger. But there was no way for any of them to follow him.

The Forest had become unable to help Juan.
