The sinister warlock, escorted by the evil creature, was walking when he came upon the cave's entrance. He sighed with anxiety due to the possibility of putting his hands on the book. He entered the cave and found it empty.
"Where is that goddamn old bastard?" Klaus raised his voice, and his anger resonated at the bottom of the grotto.
They made a throughout search for the precious object, but found nothing. Klaus put his hand inside his pocket and took a handful of dust. Then, he blew it. That enchant was supposed to lay bare the presence of any magical object hidden in the place. It had no effect.
The hideous monster, in its form of black fog with red eyes, flew over the place searching for any trace of magic or spiritual beings. However, its effort was in vain.
Suddenly, shadows appeared at the entrance. It was Dark Moon, who had just entered the cave showing its mesmerizing fangs. Right after it, a bird flew over the place. It was the crow, cawing and calling for Klaus and Fratello. Juan's owl showed up in sequence, sticking its claws into a tree branch near to the cave. Lastly, the eagle cornered the crow, which flew right onto its master's shoulders.
As if waiting for everybody's presence, Juan appeared in the middle of the night entering the grotto.
"At long last I have the pleasure to meet the most famous wizard in the world of the Humankind," Klaus said, faking a smile. "Should we wait for the arrival of another of your pets before we commence our party?"
"I'll make you the most mocked warlock in the world of the spirits. That's where I'm going to send you along with your damn bird and that coward creature that's watching us."
The mage could sense the replicant's presence, hiding itself in the dark area of the cave like a serpent ready to attack. Its red eyes were visible in the darkness and Juan could see them perfectly.
"For an old man, you seem really brave. But as I see it, if you had been smart enough, you would've never been arrested by the Spanish inquisitors that killed your family. A shame I wasn't present. I would have loved to be part of the event just to watch you and your family suffering. I would've enjoyed the immense pleasure of lighting up the fire personally."
Those memories made the sorcerer sad. Tears filled his eyes as he remembered his family agonizing, the flames consuming their bodies, all the guilty dominating and weakening his soul. Maybe that was the enemy's very purpose. Facing a moral issue, for a moment Juan felt like he had been totally beaten by the enemy. However, he thought of Philip, and a new sentiment rose inside him. The anger produced by Klaus' poisonous words took him by storm.
"You despicable warlock, what you know about my life is not even half of what I've been through. You have mercy for no one, and no family to miss you either. You are nothing but a ruthless murderer. I can see your dark grey aura filled by pure wickedness. I can feel your thirst for power overtaking the limits of human feelings and breaking the rules of the entire magical code of honor. The blood of the innocents that you've killed cry for revenge and you shall pay with your own life."
"Code of honor? I had no idea that it even existed. Enough of this bullshit, old man. Give me the Book of Souls and I'll let you live!"
"I have no idea of what you're talking about."
"With the power of magic inside me, I could see that the book is hidden somewhere here in this cave, as well as the child that you rescued the day that I finished up with the lives of all the witches and wizards present at the conclave... The miserable son of Agathor, the King of the Wizards. Why did you rescue the child?" He asked.
"Enough of nonsense! You will have the book, or any other information, only over my dead body," Juan said, and lifted the staff.
The object emanated a light and the hideous hidden creature manifested itself. The wolf got into the cave and stopped beside its master. The owl observed the situation curiously.
