Scene 43:

Saturday

10:55 P.M.

Villa Costa Blanca

Max:                      “Pumasok ka na.  Please lock the door.  Susunduin na lang kita tomorrow at the usual time para sa rehearsal mo before your live TV show.”

                                “Goodnight!”

Max bid Asher in a cold voice.

Asher looked at Max straight in the eyes and fired back with equanimity.

Asher:                   “Goodnight!”

And before Max could say anything Asher turned her back to him and began to open the front door.

She suddenly felt a hand on her shoulder that spun her around.  Asher almost shrieked in shock but she found herself staring at Max whose face was so close to hers.

Max:                      “Is that it?  Simpleng goodnight lang?  No explanation.  Nothing.”

Max hissed, his warm breath fanning Asher’s face.

Asher:                   “What do you want me to say Max?  Ano ang dapat kong ipaliwanag sa iyo?  Ikaw nga itong hindi ko maintindihan.  Galit ka sa wala akong alam na dahilan.”

Asher tried to push Max away from her but failed.  Max had each of his hands on both sides of Asher thus entrapping her…his upper body leaning and pinning her on the door frame.

Asher felt defenseless and uncomfortable by their position.

Max got temporarily distracted when Asher wet her lips with the tip of her tongue but he immediately got hold of himself.  He shook his head and afterwards continued…

Max:                      “Ako pa ngayon ang hindi mo maintindihan?  Ako pa ngayon ang galit ng walang dahilan?”

“How about try explaining the case of Mr. Alejandro Zulleta III, who’s Lex to you?  May nakaraan kayo!”

“You purposely never mentioned him to anybody including Ninong Miguel and Doreen.  I bet they don’t have any idea that you’re friends.  Siya ba ang the greatest secret of your life Asher?”

“Ano ba siya sa iyo Asher?  Did he hurt you so deeply that you could not even bring yourself to talk about him more so to deal with him?”

Asher continued to wiggle her way out of the compromising position that she and Max were at but was unsuccessful because Max easily exerted extra force each time she did to keep her trapped with his body.

Asher:                   “Wala kaming nakaraan ni AZ.  May pinagsamahan kami bilang mag-kaibigan.”

Max:                      “Mag-kaibigan or magka-ibigan?  There’s a difference between the two.  Where you put the accent or the hyphen makes the big difference.”

Asher:                   “We were friends.  Nothing more…nothing less.  Maybe for a while nagka-crush ako sa kanya noong bata pa kami pero hanggang doon lang ‘yun.  It never prospered into anything serious.  And stop playing with words.  You’re so good at it when you’re in a snit.”
