Four months on, Anna was still training hard with Levi on her skills with the manoeuvre gear. It had turned out that her first attempt was indeed beginner luck, as the next few times she either couldn't get her hooks to stick, or she flew face first into the wall. Her training had shown results however, and she could now confidently soar from one building to another. Now, they were working on speed and accuracy.
Levi had definitely been strict with her training, not allowing her to slack in any sense of the word. With each mistake, he critiqued it, slowly but surely perfecting her form.
"You're hesitating too much, meaning you're pressing the trigger too late and swinging out wide. When you're being chased or chasing, every second counts." Anna nodded at Levi's advice, resetting her stance for take-off again. Same as her last four attempts, her goal was to hook onto one building and swing around to land on the roof of a neighbouring one.
With pure determination, she pressed the triggers to hook onto her first target. The phrase, "no hesitation" was chanting through her mind as she took off, pressing on the gas to narrowly swing past the building. Keeping momentum in mind, she released the hook and flew towards the roof, landing on her feet but then falling forward onto her hands.
"Better, but too much gas," he explained, an exasperated sigh escaping.
"Okay, got it," she responded, giving him a grin in return.
On the day's she wasn't working with Levi, she was with Furlan who was teaching her not only about the Underground, but the world above them. Furlan's descriptions always seemed to give Anna a weird feeling of déjà vu, but she could never completely grasp the situation outside of the walls. She was scared that she could forget something as horrifying at giant humanoid monsters that ate people.
When she wasn't training with Levi or studying with Furlan, Anna spent the majority of her free time with Isabel. When she was with her friend, Anna felt freed from the efforts she had to put in with Levi and Furlan. Isabel didn't care about how quickly she could move from building to building or worry about if she can remember the situation of the world above them. Isabel only cared that her new friend was genuine and kind; someone she could talk to about anything, and she would listen to her grievances.
There wasn't a lot that Isabel could teach the newcomer, but she did continue to show her new effective ways to style her hair where it was out of the way. She would also check in on Anna constantly, just making sure she knew that she had someone in her corner. Though it wasn't much, Isabel wanted to do whatever she could to help Anna settle into their home.
Anna was happy to have someone who she could tell truly cared for her as a friend with no strings attached. She could tell that Furlan also trusted her, but she did feel the pressure to try and live up to expectations with how quickly she learned about the world around them.
Levi, however, was an entirely different story. Every step she took was heavily studied by the man. Despite that, she had hope that her efforts were showing him that she was serious about the group and contributing her fair share.
The three friends were impressed by the amount of effort Anna had put into everything she did. She truly had become a member of their little group, and Isabel was so happy to see her new best friend thriving as much as she was considering her situation. However, there was still one person who wasn't convinced that they were doing the right thing by keeping her around.
Late in the evening, Furlan was seated on one of the benches whilst Levi leant against the wall, his foot tapping against the ground. The two girls had gone upstairs to their room for the night, leaving the pair on their own. Furlan raised a brow, taking note of Levi's unusually agitated state.
