Christmas Special (Back in the Underground)
Anna smiled as the breath that left her mouth was visible in the cold winter air. She felt that the snow she was seeing was familiar in some way, but just like every other nostalgic moment, she couldn't remember why. She rubbed her hands together and jumped up and down in an attempt to gain some warmth. It wasn't working well but she didn't mind. She was wearing the warmest clothes she owned. A dark green beanie covered her dark hair and black gloves covered her hands.
It was eight months since she had been found and it was nearing the end of the year. The winter month had very much settled in as the air was much colder and snow flowed through The Underground through the vents. It was beautiful to see the abandoned in a completely different light. Though it was a putrid place, it didn't mean that the holiday spirit wasn't present even the slightest bit. Everyone was out buying gifts for their friends and family and trying to make it so that there was something to celebrate, a small light hidden within the darkness.
Knowing that the holiday season was upon them, Anna went out often to look for things that her friends might like. For Isabel she had found a nice little necklace, and for Farlan she had found a little carving of a dog. Levi was a whole different ordeal. She had no idea what to get him; he wasn't the easiest person to please. She doubted he could really be impressed at all. Not only that, but it was also Levi's birthday on the day of Christmas which put pressure on her to get an amazing gift.
She had small ideas for the short, stubborn man. She could get him something to help with the task of cleaning he was so fond of. She could buy him a new vest but she doubted that he would really appreciate that. She really didn't know. Whenever she had gone to the small market, she hadn't seen anything that caught her eye.
She lied down underneath the huge opening to the Underground and closed her eyes. She could feel the small flakes land and melt on her face as they fell from the heavens above. She rested her head on her hands and let out a relaxed sigh. Nothing was bothering her and she would easily hear if someone was to approach her. She doubted anyone would due to how cold it really was.
Annabel had just finished another day of gift hunting which ended up empty handed. She couldn't find the right gift and it was only one day until the 25th of December. She needed to find something and fast. If she couldn't find anything, she would be disappointed and have trouble facing Levi. He wouldn't exactly care if he didn't get a thing. He had told Isabel and Farlan not to bother; they didn't argue with him. Levi had trouble showing any appreciation and didn't care for giving or receiving.
As the sky began to darken, Annabel got up and made her journey back to the house. She wasn't using the gear due to the fact that whenever she did use it she still managed to fly into every possible wall. She had to walk through the market in order to get back to the house. Every legitimate business was packing up for the night and had little stock on show.
She went to say hello to one of the friends that she'd made. The woman ran one of the stalls that sold clothes and accessories. She was the one the group first went to when they bought Anna clothes during her earliest days with them.
"Good evening Gracey," Anna greeted the stall owner.
"Hello Anna! How is everything going?" Anna was Gracey's favourite customer. The young woman was the only one who showed real manners around the older lady. She had trouble believing that she was raised in the Underground like most of the people who resided there but she never knew of Anna's amnesia. Levi, Isabel and Farlan agreed that it would put her in danger is people were aware that she had little knowledge of the place.
"It's okay; I just need to find one last present but it doesn't look like that's happening," she said disappointed. She was desperate to find something that Levi would appreciate in the slightest, but her search had left her empty handed. She didn't have the slightest idea after searching for weeks. The other two had been easy but Levi needed something with more consideration.
