Amie Jones was lying on her bed in Number Nine, Keystone Crescent of London. She had been up quite late the day before, and found herself in need of a nap in the afternoon. Ever since she finished her second year at Hogwarts she had grown more and more tired and quiet. Amie blamed it on the last years stress, and the trauma of surviving looking into a basilisk's eyes. A basilisk is a giant serpent, a really huge snake, and aside from it's poisonous fangs, its' eyes are fatal to look into. Amie became the first person ever to survive looking directly into one's eyes.

Amie rolled over in her sleep and frowned. She was, once again, having a dream about the attack. It didn't scare her like it used to, now it just made her annoyed. Whenever she dreamt about it, she wouldn't get the deep sleep she so desperately needed. A knock on Amie's door woke her up.

"Amie, honey? Are you okay? Don't you want to come down, sweetheart?" Amie's mother sounded a bit worried, she had noticed the change in her daughter, and it scared her.

"I'm fine, mum. I was just taking a nap." Amie responded.

"Can I come in?" Anne asked.

"Sure." Amie said, sitting up and leaning against the wall.

In walked Amie's mother, a quite short and petite woman in her thirties; although she didn't look a day over twenty-five. She had straight brown hair and green-brown eyes. Amie resembled her a lot, with her small figure and her long brown hair. But Amie's har was slightly curly, and her eyes were more blue than any other colour.

"Amie, are you alright?" Anne asked Amie, sitting down next to her.

"I'm fine. Just a bit tired, that's all." Amie said, and even she could her how false it sounded. Sure, Amie was tired, but that was just the tip of the iceberg. The real problem was the horrors of the school year that had caught up with her, along with the thought that she had lost her psychic abilities.

"Amie, you've been home a little more than two weeks, and you've hardly left your room. You couldn't even muster up the strenght to be happy when we celebrated your birthday. Are you missing your grandma, is that it? Is it grief? Your father and I are grieving too, you know. But you are shutting us out, and we can't get through to you. Do you need to see a psychiatrist?" Anne voiced her worries.

Amie violently shook her head, her eyes wide.

"No - I don't! There's nothing wrong with me, honest!" Amie shrieked. Anne smiled a bit.

"Amie, that's the biggest display of emotions I've seen on you since you came home. You seemed okay when you walked through the barrier, but when we left your friends you became more and more subdued. What's wrong, sweetheart? I can't help if you don't tell me."

Amie sighed. She would have to tell her mother, she would never give in.

"Mum, did you receive a letter by owl in May?" Amie asked. Her mother looked confused.

"No, why? Was there a letter I was supposed to get?"

"No - no. It wasn't from me, if that's what you think. I just wondered if the school sent you anything." Amie frowned. They didn't know if she would survive, and they didn't send her parents anything?
