Harry and Ron were both furious with Hermione for the Firebolt, but Amie tried as best as she could to look past it. It's not like she could tell anyone how she knew that the broom was totally safe, without mentioning Black. That Amie was the only one who had touched it was beside the point, no one would believe her if she said she bought it -- especially because she gave Harry sweets for Christmas. Meanwhile, Hermione started avoiding the common room, because Harry and Ron weren't speaking to her. Amie spent her time mostly with Hermione in the library, but they were running out of things to do there. Hermione was awfully distraught that the boys were mad at her, but it was a little bit comforting that Amie wasn't. But that was only on the outside -- on the inside Amie was angry too. Shortly after New Year the rest of the students returned, and the day after school started again. They had a pretty good Care of Magical Creatures lesson with Hagrid, taking care of salamanders, then it was time for Divination and they started with palmistry, and then they had Defense Against the Dark Arts.

"Still looks ill, doesn't he?" Ron said about Professor Lupin as they walked down to dinner. "What d'you reckon's the matter with him?"

There was an impatient 'tuh' from behind them, and they turned to see Hermione, who had been sitting by a suit of armor, repacking her bag full of books.

"And what are you tutting us for?" Ron asked irritably.

"Nothing," Hermione said, hoisting her bag up on her shoulder.

"Yes, you were, "I said I wonder what's wrong with Lupin, and you --"

"Well, isn't it obvious?" said Hermione in a superior tone. Amie sent her a warning stare, and shook her head. Hermione didn't seem to care, though.

"If you don't want to tell us, don't," snapped Ron.

"Fine," Hermione said, and then she marched off.

"She doesn't know," Ron said, looking after Hermione. "She's just trying to get us to talk to her again."

"Oh, but on the contrary, she does know," Amie said, and then she followed her friend.

That evening, after coming with food to Sirius, and then a lot of preparation in her dormitory, Amie went down to meet Draco. She was wearing her new knitted sweater with the A on it, her pendant bracelet, and the heart necklace Draco gave her.

"Draco? You there?" Amie whispered into the black room. She chuckled a bit when she had the feeling of deja-vu -- she always whispered into a dark room.

"I'm here," a voice said right in front of her, his breath flew on her face. Amie jumped in fright, but she knew Draco was only playing with her.

"Do you have to do that?" Amie hissed, laughing. Draco laughed too.

"Lumos," he said, and his wand ignited, illuminating his pale face. His grey eyes sparkled with mischief, and Amie smiled wider. They embraced each other, and she laid her head down on his chest and inhaled his scent of mint and -- perfume? Amie put her nose against his shirt and breathed deeply.

"Ames? What are you doing?" Draco chuckled.

"Well, first I was just breathing in your intoxicating scent, but now I'm wondering why the hell your shirt reeks of cheap girl perfume!"

Amie was working herself up in a temper, she was sure she knew who the perfume belonged too.

"Are you cheating on me with Pugsy?" Amie shrieked. Draco's eyes widened in surprise.

"Pansy?" he said incredulously. When he saw Amie's eyes flash dangerously, he hurried to continue. "NO! Why would I?"

"Oh, I don't know," Amie said, walking towards him. "Why does your shirt stink perfume, then? Are you cheating on me?" she demanded. Draco shook his head quickly.
