Chapter Nine

Surprise Visit and Prophecies

"He's awake"

"Uuurghhh" I groaned, getting up from the bed. Bed? I was sitting on the couch..

Looking around me, I saw Ella, her adoptive father, and a doctor standing around me. I was in a hospital room.

"Aaagh!" I shot up, immediately regretting to do so. My head shot with an immense throb, making me clutch my hair in pain.

"Careful, Eth. Doctor said you can't get up for a little bit" I sunk down as I sat up on the stale hospital gurney in a state of grumpiness.

"Y'know, I'm getting really tired of waking up in sterile white hospital rooms that smell of death and blood" I groaned.

The doctor cut in, clearing his throat, "I found your drink laced with poison and a sedative" He said as he scanned through the charts hanging on the front of my bed from a clipboard, flipping through pages and licking the tip of his finger as if it was of habit. He didn't look at me as he held up my iced tea from earlier.

"But how? I arrived at my house with my drink in my hand. It's been with me the whole time, even before the flight to Phoenix" I said, shaking my head and running my hand through my raven black locks on habit. All the effects of sleep wore off now. I was wide awake.

They do say, old habits die hard.

I never understood that meaning, still don't.

"Did you encounter anyone who might've had a reason to spike your drink?" Ella's adoptive father spoke up. Now that I think about it, I did see a guy who stood staring at me as I was talking to Ella. He looked oddly familiar, but not in a good way. He had a mysterious and dangerous vibe, like something inside of me was just telling me to run from that man.

"That's it!" I exclaimed, throwing my hands up in the air. They looked at me confused.

"When I turned away from him, my drink was on the bench I was sitting on, but it was behind me. He took that opportunity to lace my drink with poison and sedatives as I was on the phone with Ella!"

"Wait wait. Who is this man you speak of?" Ella inquired. I looked up, surprised. I didn't really intend to speak that aloud.

"To be honest, I don't really know who he was either. He was smirking at me, as if he knew something I didn't. He was muscular, but not like the steroids muscular. No, he was fairly lean and confident in his posture, and he wore a dark outfit. He had caramel skin with a jagged scar running across his forehead and through his left eye. It was closed. His hair was medium-length and lightish brown and covered by a hood that shaded his face. But that's not what the mysterious part about him was. No. His eyes were the darkest shade of red I could see, and it held some kind of sadness and pain in them. But it also held anger, and that kind of scared me. That's when I turned away and he laced my drink" I finished, mildly shaking as I said this in one breath. Ella hugged me, urging me to take deep breaths and calm down. I don't know what I would do without her.

Now that I think about it, that man seemed really familiar. And like I had said, not in the good way.

"Corven"

"Sorry, what?" I said after a moment of processing what the doctor had said.

"Corven. Fallen Angel Prince Corven" He said, pain flashing in his eyes as he looked up at me. He furrowed his eyebrows, holding his chin with two fingers and pushing his other arm under. He paced around the room, thinking.

"I see why he showed up now. I-I didn't think it was true, but now that I see it.." He trailed off. He seemed to be lost in his own little world. My patience was running thin.

"See what." I growled lowly. He snapped his head up to me, bowing his head respectively.

"Apologies, Sir. It is the alleged Prophecy. One time, about 1000 years ago, an Oracle was born. An Oracle is a person who tells 'prophecies', or to put it in better words, 'riddles of the future'. Anyway, she spoke of a specific prophecy that had every living being tremble in their boots." He breathed.

"What is this, prophecy?" Ella spoke up.

"A tale of two,

Vampire and Werewolf,

Trek the Mountains of the Fallen Kings to fulfill a quest,

Defeat the Fallen Angel Prince Corven,

But face a greater foe to save the world,

One must fall or doom to us all" He spoke in a fake British accent. It took all my willpower to not cringe.

"Huh. I had always thought prophecies would rhyme" Ella spoke after a moment, giggling. I couldn't believe her right now. The time for her to say that, too.

I couldn't help but think about that one part.

'Defeat the Fallen Angel Prince Corven,

But face a greater foe to save the world,

One must fall or doom to us all'

One must fall or doom to us all.

One must fall.

Fall, as in die. Perish. Cease to exist.

But only one has to fall. Either me or Ella.

Me obviously.

"Listen to me, future Vamp Prince."

"Hooray, he speaks. What do you want now, your Royal Assness?"

"Ha-ha. Charming. It says one must fall or doom to us all. What if it doesn't have to be you or Ella? What if it's another person that embarks the journey with us?"

"I don't know. I mean, the Prophecy said 'A tale of two, Vampire and Werewolf, Trek the Mountains of the Fallen Kings to fulfill a quest'.. I guess it didn't really say anything about bringing anyone else to the death ride with us"

"I mean, prophecies are kind of made to do that. They're riddles, not necessarily direct in their words"

"Yeah, true"

"Shut up. Your girlfriend is coming"

I could almost hear him snicker at that last comment.

"Ella! To what do I owe the pleasure?" I bowed as I got up from the bench I was sitting on outside the hospital. Somehow I had gotten there, but I was soaking in the moon gratefully.

"Well, I mean I am the Princess of Werewolves and all, but there's no need to bow" She giggled, getting serious in an instant. I swear she was bipolar.

"Princess?"

"Yeah. Sorry, I didn't really tell you everything" She shrugged her shoulders and rubbed the back of her neck shyly. I chuckled, grabbing her hands and kissing her cheek. Her cheeks lit, flaming.

"Apology accepted." I mock bowed before I pulled up my hood and turned away from her, blending in with the shadows of the night. I dashed away from her, retreating quietly into the hospital lounge. I looked back for a second to see her still standing there in the same position, shocked.

I would be like that too if I was in her position, not gonna lie.
