Chapter 1
It’s the year 2764 and it’s cold, actually it’s so cold I can see ice forming on my sun dyed blonde/brown hair.
I’m hiding the rubble of what used to be a house now it’s a broken down woody mess, I hear nothing outside and decided it’s probably time to hunt for food if I can find any.
The past couple of years have been hard, first my whole town got wiped out by the new species and now I am terrified that I am the only human left on earth.
You see about 500 years ago people started changing, they were growing and in time the humans that were left got destroyed, one by one the ‘giants’ as we humans call them, would crush us merciless.
I was born right before my mum changed, she became a giant and crushed my dad by accident, she grew to be about 100 feet tall and by that stage she was crazy because she killed her own husband and went on a rampage about the city and all that was left was a few of our neighbours, me and my older sister.
I try not to think about my family, they were crushed by a few toddlers that were let loose outside the giants boundaries, of course there aren’t any boundaries anymore because the word ‘Human’ is now a myth just like unicorns and mermaids we are just a legend that is now told to giant kids before bedtime.
I sigh as I pull on my cleanest raggedy night dress, no one is going to see me anyway so I don’t really care how I look, I grab an old giant hair tie that I found in ruins one day and tie it around my waist to the top half of my dress is more like a shirt and it’s a lot more comfortable.
I grab my backpack which I also found, it’s an Elmo backpack that probably was owned by a little kid going to school for the first time, I try not to think about these things but with no one to talk to your mind can wonder.
I step out of my hiding place and take a look around, I have been traveling south for years it seems like and I don’t even know why I bother, I often wonder, why not just end my life now, I have no reason to live, no one will care if I am gone, I have no meaning to live now so why keep moving, why struggle for survival.
I shake my head and just keep walking, I look up to the sky, it’s covered in clouds but it’s warmer out here than it was in the cold drafty old house.
Stopping suddenly I feel the earth shake, I immediately run as fast as my skinny legs will take me and take cover behind an old steel garbage dump.
I look over and see a figure moving quickly up the horizon, it looks like a boy, a teenager about the same age as me, and he had light brown hair and green eyes.
He is tanned but who isn’t these days especially when you’re as close to the sun as the giants are.
I must be close to the giants now, my initial plan was to find my mother but I figured that was nearly impossible to do so now I just wonder the plans of ruin until now, I hadn’t seen a single giant in my almost 9 year journey.
I am 16 years old and I was only 7 when my sister died, I never even knew my dad but from what I heard from my older sister he was kind and caring and I apparently looked just like him.
I shake my head as I focus on the task at hand, should I reveal myself and let fate decide what happens to me or should I just hide and pray for my safety.
As the boy nears the old broken down town I decide I should hide in case he is an aggressive giant, so because I’m so stupid I run just as he nears the city, I run for my life but there are no buildings in sight that are capable for me to hide in, and now I begin to think that plan number one was the better option.
