Chapter Twelve - The Straw that Broke the Hedgehog's Back

" Waitress!" Mikey yelled as he stood up and waved from the booth they sat at." You got any pretzels?"

The waitress looked over at their table. " Hold on for just a minute, hun." She finished writing down a person's order and ran into the kitchen.

Mikey sat back down and looked at Manic who sat beside him. "So who's Mr. Bellows?" Mikey asked and sipped his vanilla milkshake.

" I'm not sure." Manic answered scratching behind his ear. " He said he was part of this group called the 'Peace Makers' and that he wanted me to help them stop something Eggman is doing."

Mira's jaw dropped. "What? "

Mikey gasped and a big grin came on his face." Whoa! so you're gonna fight against Eggman!? That's AWESOME! Is it like a mission impossible type plan? Do we get some cool weapons or gadgets? What if we're gonna team up with Sonic and his gang? I could ask Sonic what's the fastest he's ran! And I can ask Tails... well... why he has two tails!"

" You can also ask Amy where she keeps her hammer, too!" Tag said sarcastically. Mira smacked his shoulder, making Tag looked at her with narrow eyes. " Oh come on, like you don't wonder where she keeps that thing?"
Mira rolled her eyes.

" So what's the plan, Manic?!" Mikey asked eagerly. " How are we gonn save the world!
Manic sighed. " I told him no, Mikey."

Mikey's ears sagged down in disappointment." Awwww." Mikey pouted.

Mira looked at Manic slightly confused, " So wait... Some guy sends you a message, asking for your help to do something good for the planet and you told him no?" She looked back and forth from Tag to Manic. " Not even considering the offer?"

" I've never even heard of the Peace Makers.." Manic admitted." And there's.... other reasons I'm debating." Manic said looking down at the table.

" Plus the guy was a cyborg. " Tag shrugged. "You can't really trust those."

" No Tag, YOU can't trust them, that doesn't mean we can't!" Mira said then turned back to Manic. " Manic, this is a golden opportunity! We could actually be doing something good instead of aimlessly robbing banks, and, and stealing from people every place we go to! "

" Sshhh!" Tag and Manic shushed Mira as someone walked by their table and stared at them cautiously, they all kept eye contact with him for a few seconds, then the person continued walking.

" Quiet down, Mira" Tag whispered.". You don't want us getting caught in here."

" Sorry," She apologized, lowering her voice to a whisper. " But seriously, I think it would be good to at least ask what exactly he is wanting you to do before turning him down. They could really need your help."

" They can handle whatever it is alone, we have better things to do." Manic said crossing his arms.

Mira frowned." Manic.... Pick-pocketing the rich and robbing jewelry stores is not important... What's your issue? Don't you want to help people?"

" We help!.... But in our own way.. Like when we donated all that money we got from the whole bank robbery deal... We should just continue our lives as they are. We're fine."

Mira looked at him as her eyebrows furrowed." But what if they really NEED you, Manic. This could be a breakthrough!"
" I don't believe they need me that bad, I'm sure they can find someone better for the job anyway..."
Mira exhaled through her nose, a bit aggravated at his sudden stubborness. " Okay.. Say they don't find someone else willing to take your place. What if whatever Eggman is planning right now puts not just everyone else's, but all OUR lives at stake too? We could all be dead tomorrow because of your stubborness!"
" And what if their just using me so they could ake over instead of Eggman? " Manic countered.
Mira crossed her arms. " Well that's a judgement we'll just have to come to later on.. But I think you should at least give them a chance.... Wouldn't you rather be known for saving Mobius than being a criminal the rest of your life?" She glared at Manic, then glanced at Tag and Mikey. " Don't we want to be better than this?"
