Epilogue

With a grunt, a cat made its way into a place it had no idea what it was.

It could see no other cats — which wasn't very surprising, considering the forest was almost pitch black. Tall trees loomed over it. Mud and grime littered the ground. A disgusting stench filled the air.

And the sky had not a single star.

The cat's paws just drove it through the mucky underground. It didn't know why it was here or how it had gotten here.

It heard the sound of paws trudging through the muck and it stopped.

A golden and black tom was padding toward it. With a jolt the cat recognized the tom.

"Fang?" it asked. "What are you doing here?"

"Greetings to you too, Blackfang," Fang replied drily. "This is the Place of No Stars. It's where cats like us go when we leave this world."

"What do you mean, cats like us?" Blackfang narrowed his eyes.

"You know who you are," was Fang's only response. "Did your journey here go well?"

'Do you think well means falling down a ravine that seemed like forever?" Blackfang growled. "I can't believe it. A medicine cat was the cat who fought me — Midnightsky. And I couldn't kill her!"

"She didn't kill you either," Fang pointed out.

"That's true." Blackfang sighed. "She claimed that she was my sister. She even tried to save me — although I still don't trust her... Fang, is it true?" He paused. "Is Midnightsky my sister?"

Fang didn't say anything for a few heartbeats.

"Yes," he finally mewed. "I saw when your real mother gave you to Streamclaw."

Blackfang flexed his claws. "She's a traitor! My whole family abandoned me — Midnightsky especially!"

Fang's eyes widened and he moved closer.

"Yes," he whispered. "And you need revenge."

"I do," Blackfang hissed, his gaze sparking. "But how am I going to do that?"

Fang smiled evilly. "I thought you would never ask that question. Blackfang, the rogues have not died away. They are still living in the shadows.

"And now is the time for revenge."
