Ren looks at the notebook that's lying next to him on the couch. There's not really anything else he'd like to take with him. Just like she planned, Kaida gave a notebook to everyone, though all of them wish there were more people to receive one.
It hasn't even been fifteen minutes since they started packing when someone rings the doorbell.
"The door is open." Ren responds.
Ichiro is the one to enter "I found something in the office." He seems hestitant to continue.
"What did you find?"
The silverette looks down "The bodies of our classmates..." He sighs "When walking around the facility for one last time I found a door in that weird office I'd overlooked before, it was a freezer." Ichiro seems lost in thought "On one hand, it'd be more respectful to give them a proper funeral, on the other I don't know if we have enough time to get all the corpses out."
"I don't know if we should risk it." Ren admits and stands up, one of his hands in the pocket of his hoodie, he's holding the notebook in his other hand "They'd want us to leave this place."
Ichiro nods "Yeah, you're probably right. Let's go, Matsui-san and Haseyama-san are ready to leave."
"Alright."
They meet up with the two girls, who are already standing in front of the lift. The thing they always dreaded will be what gets them out of here. Kaida is carrying a small stack of notebooks, probably the ones she planned to give to the others.
"You don't want anything to remind you of the hellish place either, huh?" Maeko asks.
Ren nods in agreement before he turns to Kaida "Hey, are you okay?"
She shrugs "Not really, but I'll think about it later. Let's get out first."
"Alright, then." Ichiro presses the button and the doors of the lift open "Once we're inside it should take us out of here.
The others nod and they enter the lift, but this time it isn't to watch another classmate being executed. They'll finally leave this place, something they hoped to do a long time ago.
The lift rumbles a bit and it starts moving.
"Hey, we're going up this time?" Maeko notes, steadying herself.
"It makes sense. We were underground after all." Ren muses, looking up as if he can see the sky through the ceiling.
The lift opens in a small waiting room, which looks like it hasn't been used for quite some time. Dust has settled on the chairs and tables. Maeko leads the way and opens the door in front of them.
Ren squints his eyes. After being underground for a few weeks, his eyes aren't used to the bright light of the sun anymore. Once his eyes adjust to the light he notices they're standing in the middle of a desert.
"Guys, what the hell is that?" Maeko points at something in the sky.
They look up and after a moment Ichiro mutters "A bird? I don't know, it's too far away."
After a while Kaida is the one to answer the question "I think it's a helicopter."
Said helicopter gets closer to where they're standing. Strong gusts of wind blow dust around. Ren raises his arm to protect his eyes from the dust.
A young woman with jet black hair in a ponytail and golden eyes climbs out of the helicopter. She takes of her headphones off and hangs them around her neck while typing something on her phone "Are you students of the 94th class?"
