CLASS TRIAL

ALL RISE!

"Let's begin with a brief explanation of the Class Trial!" Monokuma begins, sitting on his large throne-like chair "The result of the class trial will be determined by all of your votes. If you can point out the culprit, then only the culprit will be punished. However, if you vote for the wrong person, everyone except the culprit will be punished. And only the culprit who deceived everyone will be spared and will graduate!"

"What's the point in doing this trial?" Naomi huffs "We already know who killed Yamasaki. The culprit left behind the evidence for that."

"Are you referring to the ink we found on the floor?" Ichiro asks.

"Of course. The ink obviously belonged to Matsui. She's the only one who has acces to it."

"No, that's wrong." Ren argues.

Naomi raises an eyebrow "Are you going to try to defend her again? Are you sure you're not letting your emotions get in the way? I thought you were smarter than that, Kimura."

"It's not that. You really are wrong. All of us had acces to ink, in Kaida's lab." Ren points out "None of the Ultimate Research Labs have locks, so anyone could've sneaked in and taken the ink in an attempt to frame Kaida."

"How do you know it wasn't from her fountain pen?"

"I wouldn't use a leaky pen for calligraphy." Kaida defends herself.

"Plus, we found the container." Ren adds "There was an empty ink bottle in the trash bin in her lab."

"I tripped over the fucking thing and there it was!" Maeko beams.

Kaida sweatdrops "I should really clean up there."

"Hell yes!"

"It doesn't prove Matsui-chan's innocence, right~?" Aika questions.

"It just means there's no guarantee that she's the culprit." Tatsuya agrees.

"Maybe we should talk about the case itself first. Then we can decide who could've done it." Ichiro suggests.

"B-but how do we start?" Yukiji asks "I m-mean the Monokuma File d-d-didn't mention the c-cause of death this time..."

"While that's true, I think it's pretty obvious that it was a broken neck." Naomi says.

"I'm not gonna trust a fucking thing you spit out!" Maeko huffs.

"Well, other than the stab wound there were no external wounds he could've bled from." Kaida thinks out loud.

"And he didn't bleed enough from it to die of blood loss." Ichiro adds.

Aika tilts her head "How about the crack in Yamasaki-kun's skull?"

"That's very unlikely." Ren tells her "Even if it damaged his brain, the impact that caused the crack also broke his neck."

"It's easier to die from a broken neck than hitting your head, even with a lot of force." Naomi explains "Sure, while hitting his head could've damaged his brain, it doesn't guarantee death, a broken neck usually does unless you're very lucky, or unlucky."

"What d-do you mean by th-that, Endo-san?" Yukiji asks.

"Depending on which vertebrae you break, most of the time you either become paralyzed or die. Breaking your neck damages your spinal cord, but when it damages the nerves that send the signals to your heart, you die because your heart stops beating. Dead or completely paralyzed, it's hard to decide which one is worse."
